Agreed............as long as they are not intentionally misrepresenting what they have or are selling. I can also live with someone that is kennel blind even though we should strive not to be. It's still being dishonest even though it's themselves they are being dishonest with.
Again, another reason to watch the dog(s) in question for yourself and not just take someone else's word for it.

Re: Breeders pitching their dogs
Being fairly new to beagling, I agree that some talk their hounds up too sale them and I have learned the hard way to watch the hounds run before buying, and a few other observations I have made in my short time into it, such as:
1) A pup is a pup, and when the guy selling the pup says that it is going to be a top notch hound and start real fast(hmmmm..bs..)
2) The hound is only shy untill he gets to know you, that might be so, but dont buy until he knows you,lol
3) They can really run, but its just a bad day, and any hound can have a bad day, that too may be true, but only buy on the good day.
4) I am selling as a brood bitch or stud only, cause of their great blood line, If the hounds cant do the job... plz dont breed them, paper is paper, and paper doesnt chase rabbit.
5) Being raised with the belief that a man is as good as his word, it has been an eye opener to see how many culls are getting passed off as hunters, I personally do as much research on the breeder as I do on the hounds anymore, an option that was not afforded to me when first getting in the sport due to not knowing anyone except the guy that sold me the next hottest hound pups in the sport at way above pup price. But I have learned who to trust and and whos who, and with a few phone calls I can cover the states pretty good to check the ethics of a seller.
Steps I take before buying-
1} I know what kind off hound I prefer, so I do look for certain crosses and peds.
2) I f a ped looks good then I look at the hound, watch it run, if its a pup I want to see the parents run, I dont care if every hound on the ped is a champion, I have seen some champs that look like chumps(no offence)
3)Cull a hound: I know it sucks but be honest with yourself and call a cull a cull, it is the best thing any of us can do to better the hounds and your kennel. Great hounds are far and few between, Great houndsman are even fewer, I have been lucky and met and been helped out by some great guys that have yrs and hounds to prove they know what they are talking about.
To me it is ok to state the good of ones hounds, but wish we would all state faults as well, but like they say, "WHEN THE TAILGATE DROPS" Watch the hounds and weed through the lies, lol.

Oh and Harner, my only real disagreement with your initial post has to do with the dancing in the end zone. I like to celebrate as much as the next guy but showing off is showing off...........sportsmanship still needs to play a role even at a professional level IMO. The dancing thing turned into more of a competition.........although initially probably intending all in good natured fun had/has turned into an animal all to itself. If I wanna watch a dancing competition I'd stay in the living room when my wife turns on dancing with the stars.

I'll agree with the sportsmanship part of your post, but still the NFL needs to take a chill pill and let them have some fun!

It takes responsibility on both parts from the organization and the players.
Isn't it sad that you have to police the actions of adults............or "professionals". That part of it totally amuses me.

Re: Breeders pitching their dogs
There has been some super good information and advice given in this thread. I can only hope those new to Beagling read the comments closely in order to enjoy a good initial experience in this sport. At the end of the day, if we, as Beaglers, do not have a good reputation, then we have nothing.

I think letting them do a little dance in the end zone isn't a big reason to police the athletes, I want to know why Tank Johnson, gets manslaughter chargers and is still playing in the NFL?? But we fine players for dancing in the end zone?? Police players for killing people outside the field!!
Bunny we will agree to disagree.

Re: Breeders pitching their dogs
I didnt take the comments personal at all. I just used myself as an example of someone who does list faults when selling flawed hounds. My comment was that it seemed to refer to all breeders and many here are honorable.

The post by Shady Grove Beagles should be nominated for post of the month.

Agreed, but again IMO it's a real shame that they have to police any of those circumstances at all. I know they are all still just human like the rest if us but you sure would like to think with the kind of money they make they could find better things to do with their time............both on and off of the field. Good point though.

I'm pretty sure when a player gets fined it does go to charity, depending on what is done...

Re: Breeders pitching their dogs
Sorry I come into this topic late, but referring to the beagle section of this topic.
A guy once told me "if you want to get a good dog, go to the man that don't sell any". It took a while , but it finally sunk in. If a guy has trully got a good dog, he has no need to talk him up and he sure want get rid of it under normal circumstances.

cburchett77 - Clyde, I think that you summed it up in a nut shell. No better words of advice can be given to new Beagler or one that is relatively new to the sport and looking to buy dogs. Keeping the inexperienced buyer from being taken advantage of by the dishonest among us was the reason for my original comment.

Re: Breeders pitching their dogs
Good post Shady Grove. I have sold very few dogs ever and you can bet I will give all the trial the potential buyer wants. It doesn't matter to me if it is $1.00 or $1,000.00 I want the buyer to be happy. That's the way I want to be treated. I may not leave this world with much money but I plan to leave here with a good name.
