Dont have any clue

Dog seems lazy and tired. Its loosing weight and will not eat but it will drink water. What could be the problem.

I have a 8 year old that acts the same way. Took him to the vet and he said that he has pancreatitis. Some days he eats like a horse but it seems to go right through him but other days he will hardly eat at all. He has no energy but drinks plenty of water. The Vet said there was some sort of medication to give him daily but it was very expensive and he would probably have to take it forever. I'd take him to the vet and have some tests ran. Let us know what you come up with.

I would take the dog to the vets. There are such a number of problems that just ran through my head. There was an arcticle in the American Beagler this month if you get that it is on page 50. It was on Pyothorax. Something which I had never heard of. My heart goes out to John White.

I had an issue with our oldest hound this month.(I got my issue of the magazine at the same time) He wasnt eating which I attributed to a bitch I have coming into heat. By that saturday he had a temp. I started on Bayer and Amoxicillan. He was walking around with his tail tucked, and like he was an old man. Complete personality change. I talked to the vets on and off all week. Finally I made the appointment. I had to work that next day. My husband called me at work and apparently the old fat boy was running around like a pup again. Everything was back to normal. But I was at the point where I felt like it was time to take him because he had not shown 100% improvement. The appointment was canceled and the vet said if he regresses bring him right in. But now he is 100%. It is what you feel comfortable with as to what medical care you give at home. Sometimes you have to make the decision to use the vet.

There are many underlying problems that I am sure many of us have never heard of. That is what is so great about these boards for me. It is educational. When owning a number of hounds it is great to be aware of issues that could arise.

Im not saying this is what the problem is, what I am saying is that it could be anything. Good luck to you and let us know how it turns out.

I recently had a female do this, along with runny stool...Turned out to be whipworms...Never had a dog with these before, had to go to the vet for medication, was told there wasn't anything over the counter that would help it...Good luck, Tony

Bluegrass got it on the dot. It was whip worms and my vet told me the same thing. (They are no over the counter medication to help get rid of this type worm)
