this weekend in OHIO

Post by beaglenutz »

I just wanted to see how everyone did running this weekend?
It was not that great here in southeast Ohio.
Everything went straight to the holes and was harder that heck to jump!!(WHY)
Also wanted to see if anyone was seeing any dead rabbits?( by NATURAL CAUSES)
I had my dogs bring two back to me that did not look hurt or tore up at all!!!
Could it be from the last month of heavy snow- starving?
ANY THOUGHTS??

Running has really improved up here in NW Ohio. that's not saying much though it has really been bad for quite a while. haven't seen too many dead rabbits due to natural causes, have found remains after a hawk or owl got them though

I ran at Deer Creek a couple days with a friend and we had a few jumps in some spots and none in others that had alot of game prior to the snow. We saw no tracks and had no jumps in almost 4 hrs. moved to another spot and jumped 1 in 2 min. they seemed to be hit and miss and we had no huge races the ones we did get up.

finally got out today, monday, after over a month of a foot and a half of snow and a bum knee combined and we jumped quite a few, I could have killed four in about two hours but the dogs were really rusty, everybody bumping for the front and makin losses but they were just happy to be out, They will settle down now they have got the rust off their gears, They looked like a bloopers video on rabbit dogs! But they did eventually circle a few. Surprisingly enough none of the rabbits we jumped went to hole, they all ran pretty much, I was just happy to be out in the sunshine with my hounds and not stuck in the man cave dreamin bout runnin! Here is to another year of HAMMERIN!!!!!!! :hammer:

Beaglenutz: I actually live in Maryland now but was born and raised in Ohio. I have 2 sisters that are 4 months old right now and are doing great. I know a guy in Ohio who usually always has pups, let me know and I will try to get in contact. Kerry

The scenting has gotten a lot better in the last week with the snow melt.........or at least the rabbits will stay up and play. Mostly in the morning though when there is a crust and you can stay on top of the snow. In the afternoon and evening they are still sitting pretty tight but I think it's because of the really wet snow that they can't stay on top of. Here in another few days our snow should be all gone and then it'll be hammer down I'm sure. No super big runs yet but at least the rabbits are making a circle or more instead of a dash to the hole.

I run N/E Ohio, hounds jumped Seven rabbits Saurday & Sunday, had only one chase that went over a 100 yards, and dogs marked a hole every time. Very frustrating.
