I hope to run into you at one of these trials. Make sure you introduce yourself if I see you. Most of the guys know me because I judge quite a bit and am usually the tallest guy there! I'm not judging any trials again in Maine til Kennebec's fall trial and I recently bred the 13" bitch that I've been placing consistently so I don't know how many of these trials I'll be going to. The other little bitch I had planned to trial has not shown me that she's ready at this point. Is the ice off Sebec Lake yet?

Steve,
Once again thanks for having me up there to judge this past weekend. Had a great time, as always your club put on a great trial. For a place that wasn't suppose to have that many rabbits, there were plenty of splits in all the classes.
I saw your post about the little males, and you are totally correct. They had the best run of the weekend. Then the little bitches, big males, and big bitches. The little bitches was really a two dog show, with only two hounds even running the hare at the end of the trial, it was nice to see.
I'm not quite sure what has happened to that big bitch class. That is the 5th time I've watched them run this year (either judging or marshalling) and it seems that there isn't much talent in there. If anybody placed any dogs, please do not get me wrong. Your dogs looked good, but in years past there have 5 or 6 big bitches that stepped up and dominated the class all year long. This year it is really just two or three.
Like I told you, we could have went longer, but nothing was going to change.
Congrats on taking 2nd with Stella. That was only the 2nd time I had a chance to watch her run. She is surely a nice bitch, and even if she never finishes, she is one that deserves the title of field champion.
Maybe I'll see you at Salmon Falls. I took a 2nd with Kim at Palmer, and now I got that "last win bug" again, so I'm going to hit up both Salmon Falls and Glendale. And I'm looking for somebody to take that long ride to both with me, if you think thats something you might want to do.
Thanks again.
By the way, I know we were talking about "old dogs" this weekend. Today is Catch and Jonesy's 5th birthday.

Rob, thanks again for a fine job of judging and the kind words about Stella. She's not the best hound I've ever had in my kennel, but if ever there was a hound who matches what the rule book outlines, it's her. I knew deep down though as we left the woods that the #1 dog had defeated her. She is simply cursed by her tiny size. Anyway, though entries were not large, we had a good trial. I put another hare in the pen yesterday and still have 2 running around the yard driving the hounds crazy, so I will trap them and add them to our stock. In this age of wondering if clubs will have game when we get there, we've always been able to guarantee plenty of game, if not necessarily great running. I don't know whether to lay the poor running on Sunday on the conditions or the hounds but you're right, the talent level seems to have dropped off in both 15" classes lately. On the other hand, I'm really pleased with the quality of little males again. These classes go in cycles from boom to bust. I was very pleased with the judging all weekend and the effort and good judgement of you four fellows all weekend. If anyone has the chance to run a hound under Rob Kane, I guarantee your dog will get a good, fair look. We hope to have you back again. Congratulations on Kimba's placing at Palmer and I'll be pulling for her- you deserve it.
Steve ill look for ya if i get th echance to show up, and the ice is almost out it sould be out at the end of the week im guessing, you might know the man that got me into beagle hunting and got me my first beagle his name is Manny Silvera he has been a great friend helping me get into the beagling world cant say enought about him
keep the beagles and bunnies running hard
JR, I won't be going to many trials for awhile as my 2 good bitches are bred. Nothing much to run right now and the price of gas is too high to just ride down to the trials to watch. I'll catch up with you somewhere though. Glad you had a good time but you haven't seen anything til you see a Large Pack trial!
JR, I'm seriously considering it but I don't know if I can keep up with Manny anymore- 10 years ago no problem but the miles are catching up with me! I've got one good male I could run with anything- 13 or 15; he's a pretty smooth running dog that's a pleasure to own- no trash and handles perfect. Can I appoint you guys as official handlers?
