2010 NATONAL HOUND OF THE YEAR
PKC is proud to announce to the beagling world that we
will be hosting a National Hound of the Year competition in
2010 and Championship Runoff. We are also offering
Regional Hound of the Year competitions and
Championship Runoffs in three regions: Eastern, Central
and Western.
The top dollar hound of the Nation will be declared the
National Hound of the Year and receive a monetary award
of $400. The top five hounds of each region and one at
large (best earnings not in Top Five of any specific region)
will be invited to join the field for the National
Championship. The first place hound of the championship
will win the title of National Champion. The purse will be
based on the National escrow account. The payout among
the final four of the National Championship are as follows:
1st place / 50%, 2nd place / 25%, 3rd place / 15%, 4th place
10%. The National Championship will be run Thursday
morning before the 2011 World Hunt.
2010 REGIONAL HOUND OF THE YEAR
A very similar format will be held in each one of the
three regions. Regional Hounds of the Year will be crowned
and receive $200 for being the top dollar hound in their region.
Regional Champions will emerge from a field of
eight. The Regional Champion of each region will
receive 67% of the purse, 2nd Place will receive 33% of the
purse.
All races will be figured by open event awards only.
Added purse money will be not count in the standings. The
race starts January 1st and will run until December 31st.
How much money are we talking here? Escrow amounts
will be determined for each region based on their levels of
participation. Each region will contribute to the national
championship fund. More entries means more money to
disburse along with these titles.
EASTERN REGIONAL ASSOCIATION
The Eastern Regional Association will be comprised of
Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, the Carolinas,
Georgia, Florida and all of the New England States.
CENTRAL REGIONAL ASSOCIATION
The Central Regional Association consists of Mississippi,
Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan
and Wisconsin.
WESTERN REGIONAL ASSOICATION
The Western Regional Association is made up of Iowa,
Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana,
the Dakotas and all other states west of the Mississippi
River.

Re: 2010 PKC National & Regional Championships
Swing, I do think this is a great starting place. Based on our escrow accounts of 2009 and what we anticipate to generate in 2010, our goal for the National Championship runoff is $1,000. Our goal for each region is $500 for each Regional Runoff. The Central Region actually has the potential to have a $1,000 purse if clubs start in this region the way I think they will. If this thing really takes off, you could probably double or triple those amounts, it is all based on participation.
One thing to keep in mind, while you try to win a hound of the year or try to get in the top 16 national or top 8 of your region for the runoffs, you are winning money along the way. Your not spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to get nothing in return. We are very excited to see how this year shakes out.
Looking forward, we would like to offer State Championships along with Regional and National. Down the road, I would love to see a fine hunting dog with an ambitious handler win $10,000 in a year, call me crazy, I think it will happen in the next few years. We have one that has already won $2,000 in this last year with a basic program in place. With more incentives and opportunities, the sky will be the limit.
Thanks

Re: 2010 PKC National & Regional Championships
I think if a few will step out and try it they will enjoy it, the whole cast is judging together you might say, and it sure beats trying to run over dogs all day long and not getting to see your own dogs run that day.
No one is going to get rich quick but winning a hundred dollars a weekend is better than driving three hours and winning a plastic trophy.

I would like to know a date as well! The PKC world was on same day as UKC PP Nat. If you guys could find an open date to move it to it might help your program. I would like our club to hold somes hunts but we are mainly a UKC PP club and we all attend Nat. We hold LP HB and PP hunts and have great numbers. I'm a big supporter of PKC I Coon hunted for 5 yrs aggressively. Love paying an entry fee and having a chance at winning my money back rather than a trophy.

Re: 2010 PKC National & Regional Championships
Guys, the date for the 2011 Runoff and World Hunt hasn't been established yet, however, we want to stay Mid-March, to late March. We will definitely try to work around the other formats in the future as long as their big hunts are announced far enough in advance.
Thanks!
Thanks!
