I would say if your buddies dogs {or brother’s} look like this after they run with you, you’re dogs may be too fast.

Seriously, my whole stand on “speed” is for the dog to push the rabbit from point “A” to point ”B” as fast as possible with the least amount of mistakes. I love speed, I hate break-downs. Finding that balance that pleases you is all that matters.

What pleases me is my dogs being about a foot ahead of my brother Joe’s & Larry Perry’s dogs, but that don’t always work out, but then again sometimes it does. :P

The dog that is ahead of mine is too fast and the one behind mine is too slow. That's how I look at it and I'm never disappointed that way.

A OLD friend told me once when I told him I had coon dog that just ran to fast, The only way he is to fast son is if he has to stop and wait for the coon to get back in front of him, I think this can be used here too. :bash: :bash:

For me it is too fast when a hound or hounds are herding :bash: a rabbit rather than running it. Oh and I ve seen some slower ones herd em too. :loser:

lol i'll bite...the reason those dogs swing is b/c they are fast..they don't have the lower gear that slows down to keep the track between there legs. Somebody show me one that runs full speed ahead, and makes the turns and works a check from the point of loss out b/c that is exactly what i'm looking for....one day i hope to have one. Dogs that run the rabbit like they are racing each other don't kee the track between there legs. Go to a little pack hunt and find out for yourself you will see it all there. Some dogs have more foot then nose, some are all nose, some have a good combination of both. I guess thats why there are so many different classes of dogs out there. How fast is too fast ? Nobody can answer that question but you. If you don't like swinging dogs that race to the front, then don't run with them, if you do run with them don't let them hurt you're feelings or the owner hurt you're feelings. Or try to hurt his back take him out on a tough day with some snow on the ground, and point it out everytime you're dogs are playing clean up. Thats what my buddy does to me. Some days those hard charging wide running dogs can be fun as heck to watch other days they frustrate you so bad you can't stand it. The way i see the world that pretty much sums it up for me.....Guys need to stop worrying about speed so much and start worrying about hunt if you ask me..plenty of fast dogs that never make a mistake in there owners eyes, but how many take a tow truck to pull them out of the brush.....HUNT fellas you can't run a rabbit with out a jump first.
