Ear won't heal

Post by sidebyside »

Dog has a pretty good cut on the inside of his ear. If forms a pretty good scab over the week but everytime he gets ran, it opens up. I hunt 1 to 2 times a week. Any advice you guys have would be appreciated. Thanks, Tim

use ---NU-STOCK ---Now when you run cut the toe off your sock and pull it over his head to hold down his ears --but it is best you do this at home and let rest and he will stop shacking his head until it heals ---good luck

I had a female with a split on her ear that kept opening up. I finally got out the crazy glue and glued it together and it healed great. Make sure a cut is CLEAN and DRY before you glue it up or you risk swelling and/or infection. Good luck!

you are ok with the super glue if you do it at time it was cut --don't let it go for a few days and then if you glue it a real chance infection seal in

My dog opened up the front edge of both ears over a year ago; one guy suggested it could just be the way his ears sit on his head. These things open up everytime he runs. NuStock didn't get it done. I tried BluKote as well and I didn't realize how bad that burned until I got some in a cut on my hand. Right now I'm using the Cut Heal stuff on it and it seems to keep things tolerable for him, but with even 6 weeks of downtime didn't heal them shut. Here's a shot after about 50 minutes of running in tough cover (chunks carved out of both ears and blood pumping everywhere):

Here's a cleaner shot from late summer:

Nu Stock is great for some types of hair loss but Ive never heard of used for a cut before.

There is a product made to stop bleeding but I cant remember what its called right now. If its been an ongoing problem that didnt heal itself up in 6 weeks Id probably take him to the vet and see what he said.

Yes Nu Stock is also for Wounds if that Didnt Work have you tried the EMT Gel??
http://emtgel.com/
Another Idea is that after you get them healed up Or Closed a bit Slather em up real good With bag balm or even the EMT BEFORE you run...
And the fella was right The Earset has a lot to do with it....

I showed it to the vet when they got their rabies shot and she commented, "Yep, that's just what happens to some of those old beagles that get run a lot." I thought maybe she could cauterize them shut, but she wasn't in agreement.

I forgot to mention, but I have tried some of the foot pad balm on them before running, but I really didn't see a difference with or without it. He runs hard regardless of what happens (been stitched up twice) and doesn't let it keep him down. If we get to move this summer (as anticipated) he may get a few more weeks off for R&R.
