What are the coldest temps Beagles can sleep outside
I got to kennel my Dog outside, what are the coldest temps they can be outside in a doghouse?
Re: What are the coldest temps Beagles can sleep outside
As long as they have plenty of straw and fresh water my dogs sleep outside all year long. Temps get pretty low in PA sometimes.
Re: What are the coldest temps Beagles can sleep outside
The temp here in the "lower 48" don't compare the temp up there. I wouldn't leave mine out when the temps got to be lower than 20 below. If you had a way to keep two together so they could help keep each other warm that would make a gigantic diffrence. Try to keep the sleeping quarter small so it's easier to keep it warm.
Something else to think about. I remember that the temps in Fairbanks got so bad that the wolves were coming into the outskrts of town and taking peoples huskies and malamutes off of the chain. Not a pretty sight to see the leftovers.

do you have electricity available at the Kennel / House? If so a 40 watt light bulb goes a long way to help keep
the dog house warm for them. I went to lowes and pruchased the bulb cage so the hounds cannot touch the bulb
itself, mounted a light socket in the top of the house, wired it via an extension cord and plugged it in.
last year we got down to -4 with a -18 wind chill... dogs would not come out of the toasty dwelling. I did not get
the electricity to my kennels this year, but when I do this is how I will handle it again.
Good Luck

Check out gundogsupply.com for dog house heaters, they have several, the one I think for $99 has a thermostat so u can set it and forget it!

Last year, it got down to 0 degrees F and 2 F for 3 straight nights, I brought them inside to be nice and they were too restless so I put them all back outside, they were laying at the doors of the dog houses and were outside on the concrete at 5 am waiting to be fed so it doesn't take much to keep them warm, just a little caring will go a long way.

I keep all 12 of my hounds outside in aboveground kennels and the coldest temps i can remember was about 40 below. Thats pretty extreme though. The norm in the winter time around here is about 0-10 at night

I've been keeping hounds [beagles and coonhounds ] outside for the past 36 years in both New Hampshire and now in Tennessee.Temps. in New Hampshire would often plummet to well below zero and right now here in Tn. we're having a cold snap where it's been down around 10-12 degrees at night and staying below freezing during the day.
IF, you're hounds are HEALTHY [meaning parasite free, not fighting any disease process or condition, getting a good quality protein and fat diet and not all rundown ] and if kept in a good tight coop, house, box, etc. that keeps the drafts off them and are bedded in some straw that they can nest down into they can stand pretty much any weather you might get.
Oh ya,don't forget that they NEED water even when it's cold.Like someone else mentioned,I feed their chow with warm water when their water buckets are frozen to make sure they get the fluids they need.
