The really good thing about a chop mouth is that they don't have to throw their head up to bark. I realize that not all dogs that have squall/bawl or any other type of mouth always throw their head up but the biggest majority of them will. It tickles me to death when I hear one of my young dogs start chopping hard on a track. Kind of makes me want to  I honestly feel that having a chop mouth on a dog can be an advantage sometimes, especially on tough scenting conditions. Just my personal opinion.

I like a fast chop.

Bawl mouths sound good too but I dont like a dog that lifts their head up for very long.

Ark you and I are in the same boat.I was getting ready to say the same thing.I was looking in the rabbit hunting maz in the early 90s were they were saying a chop mouth dog could run a rabbit better. After looking at that and through the years looking at my dogs.I have to agree.

Fast chop is pleasing to the ear because it makes the hound sound like he's moving faster and getting more scent, when in reality it just fills in the gaps most times...
I like the music to vary in time and intensity, kinda like one of them fancy opera songs. The lows make the highs that more exciting...drive on!

Like Jude said I like them loud. I like a good strong bawl but to be honest I like a mix in the pack so you can tell what is going on even when you can't keep up with them. As long as they are loud they will stay.

Ran dogs with a guy that had a whole kennel of closely bred "blue cap" dogs. His dogs were all 'wispering' I think he had 5 on the ground and they had to get within 20 yards or you couldnt hear them.......

I thought that was pretty funny......you could run at night in the city limits and not bother anyone..... :approve:

Personally I dont really care as long as its a clear crisp voice. Those muffled mouths cant be heard in the snow cover.....

I dont care for tight mouth dogs on track.....that bark every 30 yards......
