Population was good in spring but lately I have noticed a large increase in the amount of hawks and a decrease in rabbits around north TX.... protection laws really don't help rabbits as much as hawks. :bash:

tony im hunting both, but even my private spots are down and i have shot no rabbits out of them, i think alot of fox and owls put a dent in them.

Ron,

Maybe you need more dog power. You always have liked those dogs that stay on the trail and wait for my dogs to get the jumps so your's can over run the track and my dogs have to keep picking up the checks.......some things never change.....Ill bet your anxious for me to get home! :(

Should be home early May......looks like Im going to Rock Island IL.

Good rabbit country.....20 min from South East Iowa, 45 min from North East Missouri, plenty of river bottom and marshes......

Might have to get some UKC dogs or I wont be able to jump a rabbit though!

Bev,

I wont be that far from Indy, I know you cant wait to meet

here in eastern ky = poor.
brethitt county are a big difference since a few yr ago, too much gun hunting.
wont be another yr or two at the rate its going, wont be enough to train a dog.
too many hunters competing against each , seeing who can kill the most.
i hung my gun up 2 yr ago and just run now.

Same thing on my end of Pike Co Dave. Been poor over here for way to long and no one cares or wants to change it, including hunters or fish & game dept. Little bit of management and some changes in seasons and limits we could have one of the best places around insted of the worst.
