Jim - don't know you but, but I think it would be more accurate to say "many" Civil War battles were fought in the Shenandoah valley.....not "most." I've studied the war quite extensively. Lee and Stonewall's battles in Virgina are extremely interesting, but that is just half the history.

I think you would love Boonville, IN, it is a rabbit hunter's heaven.

Also, look at TN., KY, and don't pass up checking out Southern MO. and Northern AR. Lots of Nat. Forest to hunt on and it is a beautiful part of the world, great turkey hunting and lots of lakes and rivers to fish also.

I live and love Western Ky. I also would welcome any that would want to come and stay. I will say that I have spent some time from home and I really like south east MO. and Northeast AR. some great duck hunting, and swampers there.

Hillbilly, I would consider Raliegh, NC . It is still rated number 3 in for the best places to live in the us. Eighty percent of the the people are from new england area. Some times I think half of the new york state is down here. Alot of blue grass festivals are around here. Deer are not as big. But you can take six. You got the mountains, beach, and excellant weather. No snow shoveling. !!!!!!!. Good place for skilled labor. Area is still growing. You have swampers and cottontail down here. Other game boar hog and bear. Swamps down here produce alot of duck and goose hunting. Hope this helps. The only draw back is no sunday hunting.

You almost had me hooked with the "No shoveling" and music part and then you went and said, "Eighty percent of the the people are from new england area. Seventeen years ago when I was in South Carolina on a visit, a DEC fella got talking to me and said the following, "Hell, you ain't no New Yorker you're just a good ole boy that had the misfortune of being born there". He was right, in a way.

There are still lots of people here who like deer hunting, fishing and so on but running dogs is a bit of an oddity to them and to others a real bother. I live in the middle of some great turkey and deer hunting but if I run my dogs I am taking their life into my hands. Too many roads to cross, to many big fancy houses in the middle of our woodlots from those escaping the cities. Time to get away from them as well as the state. There are more people like me on this site and I see they all live elsewhere. I'm looking for warmer weather, warmer people, more sun and more smiles. What I bring to the deal is a good attitude, an excellent track record as a psychiatric clinician, some fair guitar playing and alot of laughs.

I might come to visit though sometime.

We may have to start calling you Bo Wevil ( Just A Lookin For a home ) I'm originally from Ky. But in 1985 I moved to the Nashville area for ten years and I loved it. The people in the south east are exactly what you are saying you want. Tje weather is good enough you can put up with it. I like it here where I live because you can turn a kid or a dog loose outside and you don't ever have to worry about poisonous snakes.

Wanna talk about hillbillies, consider the mountains here in southwestern Virginia. If you have ever had the pleasure of going "west of Roanoke" you should try it. We have the big hills and lots of habitat. Not the monster bucks of a couple other places, but I have checked in 8 bucks over 10 points. Plenty of brush and holes for the rabbits to get away from predators have left us with a good rabbit population, not to mention some of the best tasting groundhogs in the country. And if'n you are a music fan, try Bristol Va / Tn. It is the birthplace of country music ( http://www.birthplaceofcountrymusic.org ) and just about an hour and a half from Gatlinburg. Dr. Ralph Stanley is also proudly from this area. Check out all the history in Abingdon, Va ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abingdon,_Virginia ) as well. Our history runs deep from Civil War battles over the salt mines in Saltville, Va, to the battle of King Mountain just out the road that changed the Revolutionary War. Beautiful smallmouth and trophy trout streams make this an area worth looking into.

My vote is still for Boonville, Indiana. I live an hour and fifteen minutes away and thats not even close enough for me.... Also if your married and your wife likes to shop, then Evansville isn't too far off. Henderson Ky is right next to E-Ville.

I received a tip on a job in an area of Washington called Wenachee. Anyone here know what the weather there is or if there are any rabbits to run there. The other top contenders so far are 1. Huntington, West Virginia, 2. Kansas City or Columbia, Missouri. Any thoughts?

Oh yeah and and Dont Forget the TAXES LOL one of the Highest Fuel Taxes in the States and Cigs Will run about 6 bucks a pack a Six pack of your Favorite beverage with taxes Runs about 8 bucks a 6 pack.. Lots of microbreweries around though and Home of Starbucks one thing they do know in the Northwest is a GOOD cup of Coffee you can find java shacks on every corner right next to the taco stands!!! just be prepared to fork over the green for it though....LOL

Thanks for the info. Online I can see the cost of living seemed pretty high and property expensive. Being on the east side of the Cascades, Wenachee's site claims they get saved from the rain and snow and that they get 300 days of sun, which was a big selling point for me. The pictures of the area look like wide open grounds with mountains in the background, but I didn't know if it was OK to hunt those grounds or not. I would have to treat myself if I had to deal with a bunch on anti's every time I turnedd around. And you are right! All the rabbits in the world are not much fun to run if you have nobody to experience it with, as far as I'm concerned. Thank you again for the help. How about Casey Creek, Kentucky?
