I like my Nikon Prostaff scope. Nice and clear and it works good. Check one of those out.

pick up a nikon like joeyman said... you can get them in a 2-7 or a 3-9 for under 130.00 bucks.... bushnell is another option.... or burris.... ive never been a big fan of simmons (their optics are subpar).... even for a lowend scope.

You definately want a nikon. I have shot both the leupold and nikon and like the value of the nikon. The leupold gives more light in a low light situation, but you pay the premium for it. I wouldn't advise a bushnell or tasco. I always spend at least half the value of the gun in a scope. I bought the Nikon Omega for my muzzleloader and it is freakin awesome. They make a BDC in the prostaff for rifle shooting you should spend the extra and get it. You can find one for 225 to 275 range. Trust me you will be glad you spent the money.

Sometime you can find a Bushnell Elite 3200 for $150 and that is a very nice scope. The Nikon Prostaff is a scope like Joeyman said. Burris Fullfield is another one.

If my memory serves me correct, I've seen online comments to the effect that some of the Intensity scopes are built along the same lines as the Simmons scopes; I picked one up that fits your specs above (2.8-10x44) for $69.95 at Natchezz SS. I also like the Burris Fullfield II at their price points; I've picked up a couple in the 150 - 170 range complete with BDC.
I've never tried a Nikon offering but they seem to have a lot of support online. Once you break the mid-200 price, I think those Weaver close-outs (if there are any left) were the best deal going, but they are built like a tank.

I suggest a Bushnell Elite 3200. This particular model (Elite Series) were formerly owned and manufactured by Bausch & Laumb. Excellent scopes and very solid. You can shoot heavy magnum loads through them and hold zero. Pretty clear as well.
The Aetec scopes are not a bad scope even thtough I am not a huge Simmons fan.
