Well, I have a really good story that may be no big deal to some, but interesting to others. I have at my house Bev’s dog “Clem”, to add him, and to combine our Dingus/Yellow Creek bloodlines to Dan Cane’s old Yellow Creek breeding. I bred him to Donna, a female that I felt would be the best cross and would compliment each dog very well. To make a long story short, early this morning Donna went into labor and by this afternoon when I got home, I found out she had 10 very healthy pups. So I take Donna out of the whelping box to feed her and so I could inspect the pups. I began to count the males and females. Now before I tell this next part, I want to say that this has never happened to me, and more than likely will never happen again. I started counting each pup…..female, female, female, female, female, female, female, female, female and yes you are reading this right, another female! Donna and Clem had 10 pups and all 10 are females!
So I am thinking to myself, this would be a great post on the American Beagler, I mean how often does this happen and for a breeder it is a dream litter. So I then go to the American Beagler and the first thing I see is…”Happy Birthday Bev”. Now I am not a superstitious person and I know what the words fate, destiny, coincidence and karma all mean…… but seriously, I had my eye on Clem for a few years now, I finally got him from Bev to cross over to my stock. I got the exact male I wanted, and the exact female that I wanted to breed him to happen to come into season at the freakish timing to have pups on Bev's birthday. And to top it off, Clem bred to my favorite female produces me “10 females”? Tomorrow I will go play the lottery, although I feel like I have won it today.
Oh, and Happy Birthday Bev! I guess I should name one of these lucky females….”Bev”?
