My first ever deer

Post by Joeyman »

Well guys I had a blast this weekend. After all this time I finally got my first deer. So I headed out the door right at 4am and made my way over to board members yellowdogs property. I was in my stand around 5:45 sitting and waiting. I heard the first shots around 6:25 or so. Around 6:40 I hear something coming towards me and its loud. Here come 2 does. One was good sized but she turn slightly and walked away I saw her tail. I couldn't get a shot or find her in my scope. I saw her walk away. I was so nervous it wasn't even funny. I couldn't feel my right arm....lol so a few minutes pass and I see the other doe standing there it was a good 75yrd or so. I used the shooting rail took my time put it right on the shoulder go to squeeze the trigger and I had forgot to take the safely off.....lol I take the safety off and find the deer again and Kapow.....deer dropped like a ton of bricks. Kicked around once or twice and thats all she wrote. I couldn't stop shaking and was so freaking happy you have no idea. This is my 6th deer season and I finally got one. I text yellowdog and told him he was happy for me. He didn't see anything saturday.... sunday he saw one but no shot. So I sat in my stand till 10:30 went up to the deer and WOW it was so small.......lol I had no clue it was a mini. So we gut the mini and sure enough it was a button buck. Hung it in the garage and I sat from 1pm till 5pm and didn't see anything and heard very few shots. I had a blast and wouldn't change a thing. I'm very happy with my very first deer ever and I would like to thank my good buddy Tracy aka yellowdog for helping me out I really appriecate it and I'll be back later in the week and this weekend to help fill your freezer.

here is where I shot mine. Way down there.

Ok enough about me. Lets get to the good stuff....lol So my brother calls me around 1pm while I'm in the stand and tells me Joey you won't believe what I got. I'm like what tell me. He said I got a nice 12 pointer I was like alright congrats way to go. He was headed home with the deer I told him don't go anywhere with it till I come home and see it. I got home around 7pm drove up and saw the monster in our yard. It was cool to see a big buck like that and even more awesome my brother was able to get him. This was his first ever BUCK. I told him gonna be tuff to top this.

He shot this buck at 10:20 opening day on PUBLIC GROUND. He said it just came out walking around slowly. He took his time waited for it to turn a bit. He said its head was turned. He shot it and the deer ran a good 100yrds or so. He waited some then got down and found it. Took 3 people to drag him out. The deer was very heavy. This deer was taken up north. Its my brothers first Buck.

Nice deer. Both of you. Don't sweat the button buck. I don't believe they're is anyone that has killed a deer that has not shot a button buck sometime in they're life. Until you see a lot of them it is hard to tell how big they are. You had fun. That is all that matters. A trophy is in the eyes of the beholder.

Great deer and stories. Happy for you both! Do you not have a lot of deer in your area?? I feel sorry for guys who don't get to fill there freezer with them
every year. I take that for granted here in WV. I go to my brother's or Great Aunt's farm and we see 30-50 per night! You can shoot at them and look and
there will be more comin' out 20 minutes later! Great eating they are, that is for sure! Congrats again!

Congrats Joeyman.......glad to hear you finally connected on one!! For some reason they seem to come a little easier once you get past that first one. Sounds like you guys had a good time.

LOL! I had to go back and look at that car too.

Anyway, congrats Joeyman. It is about time, you were way passed due! That will sure be some good eating, that is for sure. I got a nice doe just at dark on opening day, she weighed in at 165 lbs on the hoof and 130 gutted out. Still smaller than the nice 8 pt that my brother in law's brother got, but still a good day hunting.

BTW, what the heck did you shoot that thing with? It looks like you could almost put your fist through that hole! :)

I will be home again over Christmas break, we need to get together and run some dogs.
