Lightning update

Post by Joeyman »

She's growing fast guys. She turned 6 months old today. I've been having fun messing with the little monster. She's been a handful since day one. I had her running rabbits at just under 3 months old and she hasn't stopped since. I've put alot of time in with her and she's showed me alot of potential so far. She keeps up with the pack like its nothing. I've seen her lead the pack for breif moments already and also running middle of the pack. I do however would like to see her run solo a few times but that will come in due time. As for now she's going to be packed up till end of the season. After that I'll do some solo and brace running with her to further hone her skills on running a rabbit. So far she's a keeper.

This past friday she swam across a pond to hark in with the other dogs. Now that's desire to pack up.
Heres the video on it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jQcj2CzMnw

Here she is Lightning the bobtail assasin.

that is awesome. it looks like she is a fast swimmer too. swimming is a great way to condition dogs in the hot of the year. you are going to have to start some swim races at the local beagle club lol

later, dave

I honestly don't know how she did it. That water must of been cold. I did a double take when she went across. I tried to hurry up and get the camera out as quick as I can. I didn't think she could swim. that was her first swim in the water. I have no idea what I would of done if she was about to drown. Had no clue how deep the water was or anything. Luckly she swam across just like a little fish........lol I've never seen a beagle swim before. That was a first for me.

Thats great joey. Keep getting her out there!

I know what you mean about them growing quick. My 5 mo. old is as tall as Belle at the withers already. She's all legs. I just hope she stops at about 14" - 14 1/2" !

lol I've never seen a beagle swim before. That was a first for me.
Ours swim all the time when they are hot and trying to cool down and when we are hunting the big swampers.
She is doing great for 6 months old and is a keeper for sure. Keep her on the bunnies.

Yep mine is getting tall aswell. I hope she don't get to much taller I wanted a smaller dog. I like them a little shorter but able to run fast. We have alot of brushpiles and such here in missouri and I like for a dog to get thru that stuff.

I was wrong or way off about alot of things on this dog. I thought she was going to open on scent at 4-4.5 months old. I was wrong. She opened on wild rabbit scent at just under 3 months old. Think it was 2 months and 2 wks old. I thought she wouldn't really start packing and running with the other dogs till december or so. WRONG she's been packing and running with a solid pack of gun-dogs since Oct 1st opening day of gun-season. We've already killed almost 90 rabbits in front of her. And every single one of them she about climbs up your leg to get it. She won't stop till you put the bunny in your vest. Several people have seen her do this already. she can jump high too..........lol Yeah I'm braggin on her a little bit but she is something special I believe. She deserves a little write up on her cause she's done good so far. Thats my lightning.

Joeyman it doesn't hurt to brag a little bit every now and again........especially when you get one like that.

Sounds like a keeper Joey! Gota love a dog with desire they've either got it or they dont. I've seen dogs that when they wanted to run were as good as anything around but they didnt have the want to all the time they just wanted to go when they felt like it and thats not much fun when you wana hunt and they dont! :angryfire: Desire is the number one thing I want in a dog.
Take your kids huntin and you wont have to hunt for your kids.
