I think you could do it, but it would be hard training. Even sometimes s very good beagle will tree a squrril and stay treed so if you used that same idea you could get trainning sent and use it for trails when the pup is very young. Youd half to do this at least every other day. And its even kinda hard to train a walker coon hound. trust me I've got im.
I'm agree with GUEST...It doesn't make sense that you would want a beagle to tree a coon.... Just think what would happen to a beagle if you ever shot a coon down from the tree..and it wasn't completely dead.... I've have seen several experienced coon hounds get their butts kicked by an old boar coon, and I don't think it would be a pretty site with a little beagle out there running coons...
I agree, I think the first time a coon came down on the beagle, that would be the end of it's coon hunting days. I've seen Walkers about get whooped. I've seen them get pulled into rivers by coon, where the coon tries to pull their head under and drown them. I think a good size coon just might be able to take a small beagle in a fair fight.

I went last night and we treed two, the last coon every time we would shine the tree that thing would act like he wanted to walk down and fight. I think that there was something a bit fuuny about that coon. but on the training issue just look at it from a houndsman point of view. Different breeds are to do different things. Just my 2 cents.

Hey if you ever get that beagle to tree a coon. Take a video camera so you can tape shooting the coon out alive and letting the beagle and coon go at it. Be careful because as soon as the coon is done with your dog he might come after you. LOL You could probably sell alot of those tapes heck I would buy one. LOL I think it would be easier to just buy you a coon hound. I use to coon hunt and i have seen 2 or 3 coon hounds just about get whopped by a big bore coon. It is a big enough job to train a beagle to run rabbits let alone treeing a coon.
