I was wondering if anybody ever used ivermec to cure the red mange, if so how much did you give the dog and for how long.

I had a vet prescribe me to give my hound 1 cc of Ivomec a day for 30 days and also to bathe them in a dip that contains Amitraz 2 weeks apart.Cleared it up completely and never had it return.
Be advised that the "red mange" is demodetic mange and usually this is a result of a particular dog's immunity system failure to protect him. From what I know all dogs have demodtic mites living on them but they usually cause no problems. In certain dogs though the mites get hold and sometimes you can't get rid of them.

i had a dog that also had the red mange and after giving him ivomec (.5 cc) everyday for a month he would clear up and look great :) . then after runnin hard for a couple of weeks you could start to see some places again  . so then i would treat again, and of course he was my favorite dog of all time which made the problem seem even worse. i wanted pups out of him bad so i breed him to a female hoping that he would not pass the problem on but my hopes were just that hopes and after the pups got to 8 months old 1 of the 3 had the red mange of course it was the best pup in the litter  . so i decided that a hound (one of the best i have ever owned) could not be used for breeding and was just to much trouble for me to keep. so a friend down the road has him now and is taking care of a fine rabbit dog that i had hoped would be the foundation of my kennel. ******man do i hate the red mange!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and by the way i tried alot more than just ivomec to treat this hound but it was the only thing that would clear him up. if i had it to do over i would have put him down and if i ever see it again in my kennel they will be put down................
