What do you say?

Post by Dave Swiger »

I have been working the last six months to put together a few good hounds. I have had a lot come and go, but two have stayed. The owers of these two told me the god awful truth about the dogs. Others have not been so truthful. I have one male was bought on this board from Brad Pingly, told it like it was, no BS. Bought another male from another board was just the same.
My question is: When you are selling a dog do you:

1. Tell the whole truth, nothing, but the truth, so help me god..
2. Tell part of the truth,,,the good part only
3. Tell the bad..only if asked
4. Tell whatever to get rid of the dog.....not really expecting anyone to admit it

Whats your feelings?

I gotta stick with option 1.

A. I couldn't live with myself if I spent that much time lying to people.

B. If you wanna keep any kind of a reputation you'd better be as honest with people as you can.

C. You can lie or "leave out" the bad stuff (which to me is the same as lying) but eventually whoever you sold the dog to is gonna figure it out and how do you ever get them to trust you again.

If I can't go to sleep at night feeling good about myself then what's the point. So you may have screwed somebody out of a few bucks..........so what.........it's gonna catch up with you eventually even if you don't enough of a conscience to not do it in the first place. It may take a while but it's a lose-lose situation. :blackeye:

Dave, if and when I sell a dog, whether it is on a board or by word of mouth, my first request is for them to come watch it run.
If they want to buy it sight unseen, then they will still get the entire truth. THE DOG WILL NOT LET YOU LIE and I feel my name is worth more than the price of any dog.
That's me though!

Thanks for the compliment Dave! I call them like I see em. If you like what I tell you about the dog great, if you don't, thats alright too.

90% of dogs sold on interent are sold using option #4..

Too many internet dog jockeys running around thinking they are getting rich selling $100 culls.

If a person wants to buy a dog without watching it run first it seems like it sets up both people for disappointment. The seller can be as honest as he can and there could still be a difference in opinions or the dog could just not perform the same for a while in new surroundings. I agree in telling the whole truth, but man these dogs always seem to have a way of supriseing me and keeping me humble. I wish everyone was as honest as some, but watching the dog go is the only way for everyone to be happy in my opinion plus a little patience with a new hound never hurts. But what do I know?

I have sold a few dogs on here and have been honest about them. Sometimes it makes them hard to sell or even give away, but if you are dishonest it will come back to bite you in the :moon:

Tell the whole truth, then let the customer view the product (dog) in the field to back up his words.
