Worming
I am new to rabbit hunting, but have had dogs all my life. I have always wormed with Hartz wormer in all my dogs. Just wandering if beagle owners prefer a different wormer and if so how much and how often to worm? Thanks to all for any replies.

In my opion there is a lot in fact most are better than Hartzs wormers , the 1's listed ( I like Safey Guard ) Valbasin is a good 1 , also and I also like worm out that I get from Vet-N-Direct in AU.

Most of your store-bought wormers are a waste of money as they are watered-down.
For example, the active ingredient in most pet wormers is pyrantel pamoate, but the concentration which they have it at in over-the-counter doggie drugs is 5 mg/ml. You can get the same drug (pyrantel pamoate) labeled for other animals (or even humans) ... at TEN TIMES the concentration (50 mg/ml) ... which means you use less and it lasts longer. For example, the product Nemex II is essentially the same as Hartz, and it costs you about $90 for a quart. Yet it is only a 5 mg/ml suspension, whereas you can buy a quart of generic pyrantel (at a 50 mg/ml concentration) for about $30 ... and it's 10x stronger ... so you only use 1/10th as much.
In other words, you'd have to buy 10 quarts of Nemex II (at over $900) ... to buy what $30 would get you buying generic ... if you stopped going to the pet store for your dog products and started shopping online for their generic equivalents.
A final comment is Valbazen and Panacur are NOT your best choices for routine wormings ... as they are expensive, very weak as drugs, and thereby require heavy dosing. The most effective (and cost-effective) wormers to use on a regular basis are generic ivermectin and generic pyrantel pamoate. Valbazen and Panacur should only be used rarely, and then they need to be dosed correctly to work (which has not been listed correctly here). The proper dosing of these drugs is twice daily, for 3 days in a row. This involves a lot of product, and is very inconvenient to do, compared to the dosage/frequency of ivermectin and pyrantel pamoate, which only need to be used once to get the job done, not 6 times in 3 days.
Where Panacur and Valbazen come in handy is for a confirmed case of whipworm, which ivermectin and pyrantel pamoate do not cover.

Re: Worming
Buy you an tube of Equimax horse wormer and give one click to a regular size beagle. I cut a piece of bread in 4 pieces and put one click in each piece and throw them, one to each dog. Gets ALL worms and keeps off fleas and ticks too.
I know several men that have over 25 dogs at a time and they do just as I do. They have a cheap tube and a more expensive tube, WE all use the more expensive one. Its cheap compared to other wormers as you gat so many wormings from a tube.
Only use in insect season, not in cold weather.

Cliff
I only give once a month and only in hot weather, blood sucking insect months. Once it gets cool enough to not have blood sucking insects I quit giving anything. Start back up when first blood sucker is seen.
I wouldn't give anything else while using this for fear of overdosing. This one shot deal gets every worm, meaning tapes, heart worms, and all. There's no need to worm a dog every month.Oh maybe if your pen was infested, but then you should treat the pen and then continue with the dogs.
Too much worming weakens a dog.
Only exception is if I buy a dog, I give a click regardless of the weather. Cleans any worms out.
