Beagle Boy,

What an awful experience! Why is it, this only happens to the "Good Ones?"

Jifka was a full sister to FC Green Bay Butkus and the best female in the litter.

I am sure you will rebuild your kennels with other great hounds.

I hope you pursue recovery and satisfaction from the Minnesota DNR!

Good Luck,
Green Bay Joe

That's tough luck for sure Beagle Boy. The woods have become a rough neigborhood up north.
I lost two hounds while running within a hundred yards of my house last year

I don't believe the MN DNR offers any compensation and the government certainly doesn't offer any up in my neck of the woods.
I'm anticapating a rough go here until the deer yard up this winter. With any luck at all I'll knock a few wolves down in the process, there sure seem to be enough of them.

Terrible....just terrible!!!

I remember watching Jifka run a cottontail down a blacktop road in the headlights of a pickup truck during the heat of the summer. She was tounging every breath and turned right where the rabbit when into the ditch. It was that point when I realized how much "nose" she really had and what a hound is capable of....that night I was VERY impressed with her. We had a pack of coyotes come in on the dogs later that night and we thought for sure we would be missing some. We found Jifka and another female hiding a good distance from the original point....she escaped that night but doesn't sound like she was as fortunate this time.

She was a nice little hound....a tiny little pocket rocket.

Sorry to hear of your terrible loss. That has to be devastating!

Would you mind providing the specific area of Northern MN where this occurred? I live and run beagles up here and would really appreciate knowing to avoid that specific area. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your little hound. She must have been a nice one. I have a litter from Shooter on the way in Oct. I can only hope they have that nose
power. I am very lucky to have few problems with coyotes let alone wolves. I would make it a point to take out a little frustration on them!!!!! To the tune of
a 130 grain bullet at about 3100 feet per second!!!

Has this incident been reported to the Feds and MNDNR? Please make sure that it does. I know it seems like an uphill battle, but we will have no chance of getting some reasonable population management if these incidents go unreported.
