Lots of folks here laid off now and I'm afraid more to come. A&E companies of 60 or more now are down to 10 to 15. I feel for the men with young families.

Their dogs will be a happy deterent for their bodies and minds. Sure a cheap thing to do when money is tight.

Ever get dowm here, bring your dogs and experience something different. I'll never forget when Bev had a dog smell a big Canecutter for the first time and wouldn't run it. Thought it was some kind of trash I guess. Seen that happen before with Northern dogs.

those that can run in akc,know its the best dog,those that have dogs that get picked up there have to go to the other places.

one thing for sure,at least those that have grade hounds can compete somewhere,not in akc.
i didnt read all the pages and posts,but maybe they should get the feild champions from mid-west spo run against the ukc hbc,and even invite the littlepack/progressive pack champions and run trios----1 ukc/1 akc1/1 arha hound.run them for 4 hours and keep results.the handlers after hearing eachothers reasons for scoreing/good houndwork/spped drive check/clean running style,should either beat the pee outta one another or come to a honest conclusion of which regisitry had the best dogs down on that day.
my money is on the akc
one reason the brush beaters of the akc do it is because of time restrictions.they want the most running available for the judges to see the hounds.in ukc/arha they may not find a rabbit in thier 60/90/120 minute cast and be judged on just a few losses of the line.the last 2 akc trails i was at the dogs were out till dark---not done at noon like little pack i was at.
try a large pack hunt if you think yours runs to much rabbit,lmao,man is it great

a good dog can win in any registery.otherwise becuase of a faulty dog you may have to choose where ya race at.

Tell me who in 4 hr without a gun, can pick out the best rabbit dog.I am a rabbit hunter.In any trial out there, there is something eles beside running the rabbit.Bang,Get me another one up.I mean I love to eat rabbit and here the dogs run him,and that gun going off.Thats rabbit hunting.I ve got some that runs down here and they can really stay on the rabbit.Med speed.But they have a hard time finding one.We were fussing one time and then one guy said you ve got to run him when you jump him.I agree but in rabbit hunting I am not going to here him run much if I got a gun in my hand.If them dogs are coming back with him well you know I am not just going to look at the rabbit go by.Let s put them dogs together for two weeks and go rabbit hunting then lets see.Take them were its hard to find a rabbit and deer everywhere.Shoot the rabbit and see what dog can bring it to you.Bird hunters have dogs to bring them the birds.Lets just say I am crazy.OK.If this would happen and in two weeks lets say 5 rabbit hunters from different place, that have rabbit hunt hard in the last 30 years and in two week has come out with the best all around beagle.This dog can do it all very very smart.What dog would you breed to now.The pack in 4 hr or the same pack in 2 weeks.Think about it yall.Your not in a hurry to buy a dog.Why be in a hurry to see who got the best.I love trials and love the fellowship,but winning a trial is a trial.Let take it hunting.I say make it harder.Just 8 dogs in a trial for all day hunt with killing the rabbits with the gun and $ 200 enty fee.Then when you get 8 winner, then two week trials of hunting with a 500 enty fee.The man that win this trial,Got the best rabbit dog.

Show me a rabbit dog that is natural broke, that is and outstanding jump dog, that can pick up the rabbit and bring it to you when kill, call it on a rabbit,load by itself, and can run all day killing rabbits under it.I show you a man breeding females and making lots of money.
Not saying your dog that won the trial is not a rabbit dog,But understand were I am coming from.A man that love rabbit hunting.Thats what trials are for?

we would have to use the entry fees to try to buy more rabbits just to turn back loose or we would'nt have any rabbits left to run.it would be great,but without any rabbit running through the off season,they probably would'nt do very good for the first half of season.it just don't seem very pheasable for a format of any size to be able to do.for the amount of dogs just in akc and arha,our rabbit population would surely go to nothing.i love hunting ,but i also love to just listen to a good hound pound a bunny's little ass off for a solid hour.and love to witness 40 big bitches or 40 big males compete all day long.(i like big dogs)usually you can see which one can keep a rabbit coming all day.bringing it around once is great,but i like to see one keep bringing the rabbit around.it takes a real dog to circle a rabbit for an hour by its-self.

I don't believe any cottontail rabbit can run for an hour with a real pushing dog with any speed after it. It gets no rest and can't pull any tricks as its got its ears laid back and running straight for its life. Much easier to run. Closer to the rabbit, the stronger the scent and straight running, no tricks, so seldom a loss. Rabbits do not run for hours with any preditor after them so they are not in shape for it like our dogs are. They elude being eaten by concealment and tricks, not by marathon running.

A slow dog or pack can run for one hour and even more hours as the rabbit gets to sneak around and squat and rest while the dog straightens out the loss created from the lead the rabbit created enabling it to sneak around, backtrack, jump over two rows of soy beans, etc..

Usually if we don't shoot the rabbit in 15-30 minutes or less its a caught rabbit and even then its stiff as a board and will stand straight out if held by a foot.

I have pulled a trick on folks by saying "I am going to go myself and catch the rabbit" after I had seen it squatting from exhaustion and walked over and picked it up just ahead of the dogs. Once they stop and squat, they get stiff and can't get back started quick enough.

I would have to disagree with that. I have seen a rabbit get ran for over 1 hour down in the coal mines in southern indiana. That was at a AKC Midwest trial last year in one of the big classes. I don't remember if it was big males or big females.

I agree, if slow dogs, they can "run one" all day.

AKC Brace and UBGF dogs can trail one rabbit for a week as he gets plenty of time to eat, drink, and sleep.

the big pack hunt in jackson ohio was non stop pounding for 4 hours when you got 60 + dogs on the ground after they eat the first one they find anouther real fast it really test a dogs endurance.they judged on hunt,trailing,speed and drive.what a great time

Makes no sense to me turning that many dogs loose at once ,the rabbit stands no chance at all ,how much line control can you have with this ? Its not for me
