Re: ground hog
A few weeks back I went for hunter ed. instructor refresher and the Hunter Training Officer had possum (yep, possum) cooked the same way. It was pretty good. Yeah, i have eaten possum, Blair, and it was good. Meranda wouldn't smooch me for two days and my daughter kept washing her face every time I kissed her goodnight.

Re: ground hog
The only thing a possum won't eat is another possum...
... no possum for me please...
BBQ coon is kinda stringy but ok, my great aunt always wanted me to bring her young groundhog, she's bake them in the oven.
We cleaned out the last of the catfish the other day, time to start refilling the ice-cream buckets again, crappy are on the bite...

Check to make sure it's legal where you are first! A 220 conibear set in the entrance to his den will work real good, but make sure no dogs are roaming around. If you can't do that, a 22 is good. I kill proably about twenty to thirty a year with a remington 22 with a scope. Best to sit and wait for them in the afternoon, if you try to walk in on them they can spot you far away. LOL, I killed one last year with a 10.5 Timberland. Should have seen the look on his face with 270 pounds of me running at him.
A good friend of mine told me they are good eating. He said that much like a coon, you want to get all the fat off of them and the glads. A young one is better. He said to fry it like you would fry chicken. I haven't been brave enough to try it yet.
If you have a fox or coyote problem, they make good bait for trapping. I have used it for a couple of years now. Tried it after killing so many and coming in the next day to see the carcass had been dragged off.
Good luck. They can sure populate an area quick.

I have never been able to get myself to even try possem. As Patch stated I've seen them in everything when I used to coon hunt.

Re: ground hog
I eat ground hog and coon but I wouldn't even think about possum.
Re: ground hog
Patch, are you sure possum won't eat possum? I have seen a lot of road killed possums lying next to other road killed possums, so that makes me suspicious. Hmmmmm......

Thats called a love to die for...
I seen mama get hit and the young'ns keep going back in the roard till all 4 may be one big greasy spot in the road.
Just because they won't eat each other doesen't mean they aren't loyal...

Re: ground hog
Loyalty and not hunger. I'll take that. Patch, do you know why the chicken crossed the road?
To show the possum how it's done.
