Well guys we are in the home stretch now...........Daisy is all by herself and settled in. I had her out last night let her run around then took her in the house and felt around some. I can feel pups. I can defiantly feel 2.........there could be more just never know whats inside.
I felt a good sized lump. You can feel the length of the pup inside her. I put daisy on her back and the pup shifted to the side and you can fell another on the other side.
She isn't very very huge like some of the beagles you see but she is slightly bigger than from the pics you see in the earlier post. And her mid section is still wide. I'm assuming she is holding them up high still for some reason. I bet they'll drop a day or two before she has them.
Anyway I'll keep you all informed and will have pics of them when they are born. Guessing anywhere from Wed-Sat/Sun
Anyone know of a good heat lamp I can put in the whelping box. Still a little cold here in St. louis. Thinking one of them hand held lights mechanics use. And mounting it in the box. Don't know what WATT bulb to use.

Joeyman,
From what i've heard heating pads are better to use then lamps because the bulb can break. And then with heating pads the pups can move onto the heat if they want.
I used a lamp with a 75watt bulb I think, just because I didn't have access to a heating pad and it worked fine.

joeyman ..... try this I just did on my litter we had in December. .....gently squeeze her nipples when they start to show milk she will have pups in 1 or 2 days . This was told to me by an old breeder and it held true for my gyp .

I'd use a plastic heating mat this time of year. Like said before, they can move on and off the heat to suit themselves. When I had pups in the winter, I used a plastic heating mat and rigged up 2 trouble lights in the box as well. I made cages out of coated wire scraps and fastened them to the lid and side of the box. Because it was so cold, I used 100 watt bulbs and made sure the shield was on the outside--to hide the light some but still produce heat. I've seen nicer set ups, but this worked. And you could look out your window in the middle of the night and know the pups and momma were staying warm because you could see the light shine out the door of the box.
Good luck!! Keep us posted!

Well guys its 4/16/2009 and we are getting some digging. As of last night I heard her some. She was scratching around on the wood. So I checked her this morning and nothing was in there. She came up to the door wagged her tail looked at me like what the heck is happening to me.
Last night I saw some movement under the skin of her belly. Just for a slight second then the pup must of moved over cause I couldn't see it anymore. I can feel Two pups for sure. My guess is going to be 2 pups. Better than nothing. She isn't very big at all. But you can tell she has pups inside. Small litter for sure.
Spoke to my brother not to long ago this morning. He called me up to tell me Daisy was spinning around in the kennel run and then proceded to dig somemore.
We are close. maybe tonight or tomorrow. Day 63 is April 18th

I'll wager your having puppies sooner than you think
That digging and spinning around are from contractions, the contractions put pressure on her bladder and bowel making her feel like she has to go to bathroom.
This can go on a good while as she has to dilate before puppies come. Take her temp when you get home, 98deg puppies are coming...

Today will be the day. My last litter I saw Lucy digging the night before. When I got she had 10 pups all living and all under the dog house with no help. It was her first litter. My guess is your female will have three. They may not have tails though.
Good luck from here on out. I hope you end up with nothing less than rabbit dogs !

Good luck, if she is restless it won't be long now. I bred one of my females to gets pups for my own use and I am planning on keeping most of them, the reason I say most of them is that she usually has from 10--12, but since I am breeding for my own use I wouldn't care if mine had a small litter like yours seems to be having and I would have less pups to train at the same time.
