Post by rabbitstomper2221 »

My 3 1/2 month old female keeps opening on my old my older bitch! Is this a problem I should be concerned about?
Suzy and Rach are going to fill my bag limits this year... as soon as I learn how to shoot!

"dog tracking" is something you have to watch sometimes they don't grow out of it but it can be pretty common with pups.About amonth ago we had a very good post on this on another board. My opinion on this is that when you start seeing this in young dog you should start soloing heavy, seems to give young dog more confidence.

This is one of ,if not the biggest beagle boards,It amazes me that a guy would ask for help on dog tracking and he dosn't get more hits on this post. maybe a lot of guys don't even know that they have this going on,or just put up with it .There is a enough of this going on in feild trials to ignore. Me tooing and dog tracking you could pickup a third of the pack within 20 minutes. Hunting rabbits or hare with beagles is the true test of dogs abilaty and soloing these litle pack hounds will give young hounds the confidence to be a better pack hound.

You will see this problem when you take a pup out with older hounds . I do not take my pups out with older hounds until they are old enough to run with them. I will start my pups with an older slow hound when the pup is around 6 or 7 months old, but you will find that the pup will get lost or behind the older dogs and then will trail the older dogs.

solo solo solo solo. i have ruined dogs by putting too much press. on them too early. let the true traits of the dog come out by soloing not the learned crap by just packing

Pup is too young to be following running dog or dogs. Let it just be a pup and learn obedience, loading, riding in box, leash, building confidence wirh other people to keep from being shy, etc.
Seen some start early and do OK, but most get screwed up in the head when started too soon, solo or with another dog or dogs
Be patient, WAIT!
