My North Bucks Diamond bitch carried her pups high, never dropped till the last week when the milk bar filled, she had 5 puppies. Like yours, she got wider and tighter and was hard to tell what was going on till towards the end.
Bitches are programed to let down so many eggs each cycle, her health, our timing of breeding and the studs fertility are the only other variables as to number of pups whelped.
If she's becoming upset with the other hounds, I'd move her off to herself, it's good to have the bitch in her whelping area a couple weeks before due date so she's comfortable when the pups come. These last two weeks the pups will flesh out and become bigger(over feeding won't give you more pups, only bigger pups), don't tear her teats up running her as they fill out.
Best wishes with your puppies... ;)

Thanks S.R.Patch for your input. That meas alot to me. I feel a little better. Yeah she is holding them up high for some reason. Like her body is really wide. You can put your hands on her side and feel her = she feels big and hard at the sides. Weird

She will be moved ASAP. I have to clean out the pen with some soapy water and scrub it down nice and clean for her.

I wanted to take her out running Friday but I'm second guessing that now. She still ran good sunday. Took off like normal ran em pretty darn good. I just can't wait for them to come.

I agree with S.R.Patch: go ahead and move her to her new quarters...don't forget the pig rail! And I would do everything I could to keep her content and happy these next couple weeks. If I ran her, I'd run her in the least briar-y place: no good for a nursing mother to have sore teats.
Good Luck Joeyman. Keep us updated!! And we're always here to put our 2 cents in

thanks I'm really looking forward to these pups. If I had the room I'd keep two of them and have a nice pack of hounds for this coming season. Only one with be the lucky dog to stay with me and run its little heart out after bunnies. She'll be sure to have a good home and a good master to teach her and plenty of rabbits gunned over her.

I'll try and get some pics of daisy here in a day or two.

she is on Purina One Puppy chow. Started that a week-1/2 ago.

4-7-2009 pics took these about 9:45pm

ok guys here she is. Not very big but is bigger and starting to show her belly more. I'm thinking very small litter. I hope all goes well and they survive and that atleast one is a female.

What do you guys think? Pups or No Pups

Would be nice to see her up close but, just from the pictures, I'd say No Pups.

We'll I hope not. Yeah and you're right it is hard to tell from the pics rather than in person. But I'm pretty sure something is in there WHAT AND HOW MANY is the question. I say very small litter or 3. Her last litter which was over 2yrs ago was only 4. So maybe this time only 3 and the sire is tiny little guy so = small pups.

I felt her up and I can feel something in there. I was just touching gently. I felt something not sure. Feels like a oblong lump. I can feel two of them. One on each side. And the center of her rib cage the heartbeat is crazy fast.

I let her run the yard and when she runs its like a roll run like a short stocky bulldog.

Based on my experience - my guess is no pups. If you are truly 7 - 8 days from the due date then she ought to be very very noticeably pregnant. From my experience they start showing noticebly at week 5 and you are at week 8. You don't have to study their figure even at week 5 to make a determination, just a quick glance and yep she looks very different.

I may be wrong if as I've never had a litter of 2 or 3, but w/ 5 or 6 pups they look like they have swallowed a basketball.

Best of luck and hope you do get some pups - just offering my opinion as that is what you asked for.

No problem briarhopers thanks for your opinion....like you said that's why I put up the pics and all the questions.

I too believe she suppose to be bigger than she is. But she could have a small litter in her.

What I see

She is bigger she is wider her nipples have grown and I felt something in her belly last night again. So something is in there has to be.

Only thing we can all do is wait this one out. Come end of next week we'll all know. Nothing I can do at this point but wait. Feels like forever though. :bash:

I've heard it said some dogs will go to 75 or so days. It's rare, but it happens.

I had a female that would have "false pregancy" after her heat cycle from time to time....She would look just like your female. Tits get big, milk comes in a little bit.

I also had a female that had a litter of 3 pups and she got much bigger than that.

By this time its easy to palpate the pups in the stomach if she has any. You normally can feel their feet pushing on her belly especially after a run through the yard. If she has any it will be small litter 1 or 2.
