Re: The Rabbit hunter mag and the houndsman
Hey I know what you all mean I couldn't wait until my Rabbit hunter got here to read the Houndsman. I looked all over and I don't think that it was a book. I just wish he or she would write a book. It was a great article to read and always got you wanting more.

I like to read different states coservaton sites. This is Missouri's and I think they have one of the best informational, for hunters, landowners and just outdoor people. A couple books that I have read are, Walk With Wick and one about O.L. Beckem and Where The Red Fern Grows.

Re: The Rabbit hunter mag and the houndsman
I always figured it was Gerald Bailey writing The Houndsman.
I never watch TV. I am a compulsive reader. Read everything I can find about hounds. There's a few books on-line that are worth reading if you are like me, like to read and don't like to spend money.
Hunting, by John Otho Paget
Paget was a good writer and easy to read.

The Reminiscences of Frank Gillard, by Cuthbert Bradley
You will need to sift through lots of "Found in Spinny gorse and killed in Newton Wood after a splendid chase" but there is a lot of hound breeding and hunting wisdom in this book if you can stick it out. Gillard forgot more about breeding hounds than any of us will ever know.

Hare Hunting and Harriers, by H. A. Bryden
Mostly harriers but covers beagles as well. Lots of hound history.

Thoughts on Hunting, Peter Beckford
Written in the 1700's and still considered THE classic work on hounds and hunting. I really didn't get much out of it, but then Beckford got me going right away when he talked down about hare hunting. He hunted hare before he ever took up fox hunting and writes some about the little hounds. Wish he were around now, I would show him a hare chase that would stand his hair on end

Just got done with Kjelgaards "Snow Dog".
Awesome, awesome.
Gotta say it again....
Many, many thanks to you guys for posting this guys name on this site. I absolutely love his books. I am getting a couple others some time this week. They are being sent to the local library extension from another library. Can't wait.
Take care and have a good day.
