63 days to the hour will be tomorrow afternoon about 5:00. She has not been eating much and wouldn't take cheese this afternoon, and seems to be in labor right now. I'm checking her every hour and think she will have them by morning. She is a young dog at a year and a half, just wondering what you guys might think, the last litter I had was years ago and a labrador and she just had them during the night. This dog seems real needy and I don't want to stay up all night. I know dogs have been having puppys since the beginning of time but she is a good rabbit dog, any suggestions. Thanks'

Willie, I know what it is to loose a nights sleep with a needy dog having pups. It helps ease their mind knowing that you are there especially a young dog. If she means that much why not lose a few hours sleep. Have fun!

Re: PUP'S DUE ANY TIME NOW "UPDATE"
Grim she was a 12' dog of the same breeding as the one the coyote killed, and the male was Maddie's dog Rebel, who has True Line Sherman breeding. It was an accadental breeding, but should have been good.It turned into a nightmare. She went into labor Sat. morning and went on all day. Finally last night during the night she started having them. The first one was born dead, the second born alive but looks like it might have been the runt, the third was hanging out of her at 5:00 this morning and was dead, so I pulled it out. She went until 8:00 this morning with no more birth's. Terri called the vet and he wanted to see her at 9:00, gave her a shot to induce labor and wanted her back at 4:00 regardless of a birth or not because he said there were more puppys in her. By 3:30 no puppy's so back to the vet. He did emergency surgery and got the fourth and last puppy out of the birth cannal. He said her uterous almost ruptured and was in bad shape, and thought she would make it, but probablly won't nurse the puppy for days. We are feeding "lucky" formula every 3 hours and basically had to take him away from her. She started going crazy as she was coming down off of being knocked out. After a $500.00 bill we are scared she might kill him and we have nothing. What do all of you think, I'm at wits end?

If I were you I would let the mom nurse as long as she wants. Keep weighing him and make sure he is getting enough to eat. Do you have a whelping box? Good luck with everything. I hope you get some sleep.

Re: PUP'S DUE ANY TIME NOW
Get your dog some nutrical and some cottage cheese if they are going nuts after birth it is sign of calcium deficiency. Let her have her pup and let her take care of it. Right now the best thing for her is some calcium, and a nice quiet place for her.

Re: PUP'S DUE ANY TIME NOW
I know it has been debated on this board before about "attended" births or left alone in the kennel. This is why every litter we have had in my lifetime has been attended. The last litter we had, we would have lost the mother and 3 pups if we had not been attending. Anytime you have a 4 hour or more lapse once labor is started, you have problems. I do agree with supplementing the mother and letting her have her pup under observation. We weigh our pups daily for the 1st 2 weeks anyway, I know most of you do not, but it does help us monitor who may need a little more help in the nutrition part. On the bright note, if she accepts him, he will probably be the fattest, roly poly, healthy pup in no time. GOOD LUCK!!
