I did this on a stretch of appalachian highway where it was completely open between me and the collars. So far a total disapointment.
Most highways have powerlines running beside them. I'm not trying to be a smart azz,
just wondering if this could be a factor?

I tested my G2 Trashbreaker with no power lines and mine only reached .7 mile. I could see the person, I went over a little rise and it wouldn't reach .8 mile. This was their replacement. I feel like I was cheated, false advertisement. Tri Tronics will only give you one free mailer, the rest you have to pay the shipping. I had 3 collars go bad and had to send my transmitter back twice. First time they said it was OK.

Just finished testing my G3 Trashbreaker along Rt. 40. Had the son hold three collars and he was standing near a traffic light near West Muskingum HS. There are power lines on both sides of the highway. It toned for 1.1 miles then I ran out of flat/straight road and was out of line of sight and the tone quit working. Preliminary tests seem favorable. On the the same stretch of road I got .8 miles out of my G2 Classic 70 two collar system. I am sure if I had more flat road I would have received a signal close to the two mile range. So far, so good.

Could you fellows do so real situation test in the woods. We dont hunt our beagles on highways if we can help it.Truthfully the ONLY Test that really counts is the ones in the woods. That would be a real benefit to me! :eyes:

I tested mine out in a pine thicket tonight. The two testees think it was working fine. Perfect set up though two tattle tales standing right beside me saying "well were waiting". I stopped the culprits at about 150 yards. No problem with the functions I am just a little concerned about the range. I will try a little further line of sight test this week.
Where's the earth shattering kaboom ?

If it dont have an acceptable distance in line of sight I already know it won't be acceptable to me in the field. Once I see it perform to my satisfaction then I will test it in the field.

I had my old sportsdog 1200 for a handful of years now.Never had any problems with it.I have wanted a system that could handle more than 2 collars and have farther range.

Tri Tronics will always be the only e collar for me. The G3 is my third system and they have never let me down. Customer service at Tri Tronics has always treated me fair. No, they are not going to replace for free once the warranty is up. Two years is all you get.

When you're checking line of site make sure you are not in your car. Metal will shield the signal.

yep,
tritronics sent me a new transmitter with a shipping label for the old one and I have tested the new one and works good 1.5 line of sight (thats as far as I can find a place line of sight)
tested it in the field and worked good 1.25 mi. through some pretty thick patches of trees (thats as far as I can find a place that does not have hills), so far so good.

Have not had to use it in the field on a dog other than handling (tone) but I've only had to use it so far up to about 4 hundred yards or so while running dogs.

So everything looks good so far, works great!!

Is it posiable the transmitters in the New systems are digital and Digital dont reach as far as anolog????????????I think anolog takes a little more statitic and keeps on traveling.......just wondering if digital transmitter is the problem...High dollar collars that just make it a 1/2 mile on the strait away four lane hwy aint much use to me...Certainly not worth paying big bucks for!

Had a friend test his G3 yesterday .6 of a mile is all he could get. He could see me standing there pushing the button. He wasn't very happy. Called TriTronics and told him to try it again and not use his cell phone, and never use walkie talkies while testing. I wonder how they test theirs. Must use flags or smoke signals. I guess you have to click your heals three times and wish you were back in Kansas for these things to have any range.

It was a trashbreaker. There were no utilties on this road. It being a 2 mile range under perfect conditions I expect 1 mile range under any condition, trees, brush, hills, electric line, phone line, and cable tv. What I am seeing in the G2 or G3 is not what they are advertising.
