Field marrying the collars was no problem and the tone works the same. It charged in two hours with the new adapter. It is smaller. My next test was a quick range test. I left the collars on the porch and drove to different points around the neighborhood while my wife watched the collars. I will test them again this afternoon, but my preliminary results were not satisfactory. I was only getting about 500 yards at best. This is not line of sight it is in hills with trees similar to a hunting situation. My last trashbreaker would still tone at better than a mile in similar terrain. There were some factors that could have affected this test and I will eliminate them today.

The main difference is the antenae is smaller, the tone button location has been moved to the front and it is suppose have better reaching qualities than the G2.
You will have to test your unit on a flat straight road to be consistant with how Tri Tronics field tests the units before shipping. Hills and rough terrain will negatively impact the effectiveness of any unit. My older Classic 70 on a flat road would work at a mile, like advertised, but if I tested in foilage or hills it didn't range near as far. That is indicitive to all e-collars and not isolated to any model or name brand.

I think the tone is the same as it was with the G-2. First spot on the dial and hit the desired color of the collar.
My comparison is against my g-2 transmitter that I lost a few weeks ago. It would reach out in the same terrain.
I don't know of many two mile stretches of road in my area, but I don't need two miles. I used to own a beagler xl that had good range, I had two multi-sport systems that worked fine with limited range, trashbreaker g-2 that was devastating, and now the g-3 that the jury is still out on. It will be tested extensively this weekend. I hope that I can get better than 3/10ths of a mile in any situation. I am a tritronics man and hope I can use this one with the same confidence I had in the last transmitter.

I agree Anthony. If I can close to a half mile in rough terrain all is good. I don't need collars on my adult hounds but I have four dogs a year old and younger so it will be good to have the e-collar working within those ranges in hilly country.

What did you come up with after more testing?

The longest distance I have tested line of sight has been 600 yards. I live near a golf course and used a range finder and my daughter with two way radios to get that. As soon as I went out of sight I got about 100 more yards before there was no more tone. I ran young dogs this weekend. I had no problem reaching a deer runner that time at about 100 yards in thick pines. I know I am not getting the range that I was getting with my old g-2 that I lost. It may be adequate, but I am still a little disappointed. I am going to find some longer strips to test line of sight. There are a few lakes around with more than 600 yards between the banks. I may be splitting hairs, but if it fails one time that is once too many.

I have tested it at a mile at a open line of sight and no tone and no shock, then 3/4 mile with no tone no shock, at a half mile I had tone and shock. I did this on a stretch of appalachian highway where it was completely open between me and the collars. So far a total disapointment.

I'd be sending those two units back to Tri Tronics if that is all the better they are performing. I should have my unit this evening and will test it out in the next week sometime. If it doesn't get close to two miles straightline then it will be returned, period.

I just talked to Tri Tronics to get a feel for the feedback on the new units that have went out and they told me they have yet to get one complaint on the new G3 to date and the antenae is improved and using cell phone technology. They said toggle switch was improved, as well as battery life. They also said the units were heavily field tested before being released for sell. Of course, it is still early in the game becasue these just started being released in the last couple weeks. Tri Tronics emphatically stated the G3 was better ranging than the G2's and a better unit. Time will tell.

you will spend your money to send them back , tell them what them are doing and they will say we tested them here on the salt flats and they worked fine. then you will be out another 15$ for shipping, bee nthere and done that .

Well I just talked to tritronics and they are sending me a new transmitter and a prepaid return shipping label for the old one. so that is customer service, and make no mistake when I get the new one I will test it as well.
