Why do dogs eat #@$% ?

I know this was started as a serious question, but some of you guys really cracked me up! I had tears running down my face reading these. My wife and kids were laughing at me because of how hard I was laughing. They had to come and read them cause I couldn't read them without busting=up. Thanks for making my day!!

Just look at it as a self cleaning pen. Out of 7 Beagles I only have one that does not enjoy an occasional cigar after dinner.
I had one that would only eat what the other one left. She never called her own number so to speak. I always remember what Rick Giermata said " there either great dogs or just s@#t eaters ". Like maplehill said just stay out of licking distance.

I don't buy into the off ground kennel being a reason cause I have had dogs do it in both ground and above ground kennels. I have four now and only one will do it and she is on a ground kennel. As far as fattening up a dog try NurseAll milk replacer sold at tsc, 24 protien and 20 fat. I have had good success with it. Just be sure to have a stool sample checked so you know for a fact the dog is parasite free.

I bought a pup that was a $h!t eater when i got her. She started out in an above ground keennel and she still is. I started to feed her more until she was satisfied and along the line she quit. I was told it is because they are lacking something in they're diet such as vitamins and minerals. I had good luck with the purina puppy chow then switched to High pro food. She is full of energy, ready to startand don't eat $h!t. I still don't let her lick my face!

First of all I want to thank EVERYONE for their post. I haven't laughed this hard since the first time I sm...., never mind.
Well I have to confess, I to am a owner of a crap eater, feel like I am at an AA meeting. First One,, there I said it.. I never really admitted or told anyone about it, you know it is not necessarily something you bring up with the family at easter dinner, unless you want to make the mother in choke when she is about to take a nice big bite of something. Anyway, she is the only one ever. I did research this on the web sometime back and talked to me vet about it. He stated that it is the nutrients in the food. Now several people have mentioned this that is was a lack of , I asked him if it is the quality of the food. He asked what kind I was feeding. I told him, he stated it was a good food. That some feeds lack, causing the problem and others have a over amount that the dog cannot digest. Therefore they eat it again to try to gain nutrients or recapture those wonderful turds that have not yet been fully digested. He told me to buy canned pineapple, and to mush it up and put it on her food. That if she was enjoying the delight of the other hounds that to give it to them as well. Said to do this for two weeks. I did so, and she stopped,. Stated that the pinneapple made the chocolate totsie rolls taste bitter. She did have a relapse a few times, so I have stocked my shelves with pineapple. As a matter of fact we might not have any groceries, but by god we have shelves of pineapple in case she falls of the wagon.
The most unfortunate thing is she is the most affectionate dog we own and is always wanting to give you a nice big lick. Still avoid her as much as I can on the licking matter. But every now and then she will raise up real quick while I am bent over with the shovel and sneak one in giving me a big wet one right on the lips. Now it's her because it smells like S.... and taste like S.... Sorry. I would have gotten rid of her but hell she is one of the best ones I own.

MAN,,,,,, I JUST LOVE SOME OF THESE POSTS, I ALSO HAVE ONE DOG THAT DOES THIS, AND HAS SINCE A PUP. I ASKED THE VET WHEN I HAD HER IN ONE TIME AND HE TOLD ME,,,,,AND I QOUTE,, HE KNOWS A LOT OF DOGS THAT DOES THIS AND IT WOULD NOT HURT ANYTHING. UGH !!!!!!! I HAVE TRIED MEAT TENDERIZER, POOP SCOOP NO MORE FROM FOSTER AND SMITH, NO HELP. SOMETHING THAT I WILL HAVE TO PUT UP WITH I GUESS. I HAVE ALWAYS FED IAMS LAMB & RICE, WITH A LITTLE RED MEAT WHEN RUNNING OFTEN.

It is called Coprophagia = {Dogs that eat fecies}. If you notice, they don’t do it to all feeds. Cheap feed does not get fully digested, and the cheaper the food is, the worse the problem is. The dog’s body can’t absorb the nutrients in the food before the food passes through the dog, a common problem with cheap feed with all the additives. This sometimes will also happen if you soak your food before giving it to your dogs or you feed canned dog food. When it’s not fully digested, it comes out smelling and partially tasting the same as it went in. Put “Adolph's Meat Tenderizer” on your dog food, this makes the feces taste bad to dogs and will solve your problem. {not all meat tenderizers work} If you’re in a position where you have to feed “cheap food”, put a vitamin or two in the feed. Several dog food companies produce food that contains “Capsicum Oleoresin” already in the food as an additive, which gives off a bad odor making the fecal matter undesirable to the dogs, or your drunk buddies that lost a bet.

Well We have Fed Them all from the cheap to the outrageous and it didnt help a bit LOL
So We Dont buy into the cheap food part....We tried it ALL I tell Ya Every thing We could read and folks Tell us Would Work..
We gave up and just Dont let her get Close enough For any Frenchin
We were told also to Put rabbit feed in with her feed Heck She just thought it was extra Good then!!!!

As far as the above ground kennel issue; what I noticed was that the dogs that tended to eat sh?t are the ones that would bring it in their dog house when they were in an above ground kennel - I'm guessing, so they wouldn't lose it when it fell through. When I switched to ground kennels this stopped. I hate finding crap in the dog house!
