Why do dogs eat #@$% ?

I found out long ago what causes them to eat Sh*t. When my wife and I got married she could not cook a like but she tried. I came home from work one evening and she had cooked a BIG pot of chicken and noodles. I dipped a spoon into the pot and immediately took the entire pot to the fence and dumped it into the neighbor dog's feed pan. This was a huge White German Shepard that immediately went to eating my wifes chicken and noodles. I watched him for several minutes and he continually slowed down in his eating to the point he came to a scretching halt. I knew this dog gobbled his food just as a hound would do as I had feed him table scraps before but this time he slowed down which appeared to me that he was actually tasting the food in his pan. He then sat back as if to pause and then rolled onto his side and liked his butt for quite some time. It was then that I realized that a dog would make a great taster as he did exactly as I wanted to do after only having a very small taste of those chicken and noodles. After 30 years I always have a sh*t eater to turn to when I my wife cooks something that smells like that ole pot of chicken and noodles. I know if i take a sample of it to my Sh*t eater and he turns aroiund to get the bad taste out of his mouth I ain't eaten it. By the way the neighbors dog had to be taken to the VET as he almost sh*t himself to death as he had diarrhea for nearly a week!

wvduece, I figured the neighbors dog licked his OWN butt to get the bad taste from his mouth and that's exactly what I thought might help.
S.R. Patch, I don't remember exactly what she did but i do remember that she boiled the chicken and the noodles seperatelyand then dumped the chicken in a drainer to pick out the bones. She dumped the chicken broth down the drain and then mixed the chicken in the noodles, boiled in water. I remember her saying it had no taste but I don't remember what all she dumped into them to try to give them some. I do remember SALT and plenty of it!

Pick up the crap before they eat it helps ! The only time my dog ate it was one time when staying in a hotel I passed out drunk and left the dog locked in the kennel all night. I didn't give her a chance to go outside before bed. Rather then lay in her crap she ate it all.

sometimes I feel like dog is a little person trapped in a dog body she is looking up at me from licking her butt trying to say I knows its gross but i can't stop cuz god cursed me with doggy genes.

I tried the meat tenderizer last year. Didnt help a bit. I just said the hell with it and make sure I dont get within licking distance.

A LITTLE WATER WILL HELP THEM GET THE MOST OUT OF THE FEED AND SLOW DOWN REAL HEARTY EATERS THIS REALY HELPED MY HOUNDS IT DOES TAKE A LITTLE EXTRA TIME TO PUT THE WATER ON AND WAIT FOR IT TO SOFTEN A LITTLE BUT IT HAS BEEN WORTH IT FOR ME GIVE IT A TRY AND LET ME KNOW IF IT HELPS.

I always add water to my dogs food and let it soften , maybe that does help.

It is called Coprophagia = {Dogs that eat fecies}. If you notice, they don’t do it to all feeds. Cheap feed does not get fully digested, and the cheaper the food is, the worse the problem is. The dog’s body can’t absorb the nutrients in the food before the food passes through the dog, a common problem with cheap feed with all the additives. This sometimes will also happen if you soak your food before giving it to your dogs or you feed canned dog food. When it’s not fully digested, it comes out smelling and partially tasting the same as it went in. Put “Adolph's Meat Tenderizer” on your dog food, this makes the feces taste bad to dogs and will solve your problem. {not all meat tenderizers work} If you’re in a position where you have to feed “cheap food”, put a vitamin or two in the feed. Several dog food companies produce food that contains “Capsicum Oleoresin” already in the food as an additive, which gives off a bad odor making the fecal matter undesirable to the dogs, or your drunk buddies that lost a bet.

Mine prefer cat $h!t, even my house dog from time to time will have cat $h!t breath, glad my girlfriend found those puppermints, I could kill them when they eat that stuff, you go to pet them and you smell it and the dang cat litter falls on you, that sucks.

I know this was started as a serious question, but some of you guys really cracked me up! I had tears running down my face reading these. I have a deer hound that was losing weight and I wormed him, changed food and he still didn't fatten up. Been feeding him a tea cup of grease off fried hog jowls once a day with his food and he's starting to fatten up. I don't know what the end result will be, but he likes that grease.
