Re: HONEST/FAIR MEASURING
Just Have two Question's for every one on this measuring issue. If The AKC has you to get you dog measured 3 different times for an Offical measurment {2 out of 3 has to be in the 13" or 15"class Which erver you run it in]. Why would their rep's measure a dog one time and say the offical was wrong? If Measuring was so easy done why best 2 out of 3? Seems to me like they already know that they are going to be diffrent measurement's between Judges. If not why not just one measurement for an offical? Sorry Ended with another Question. So that makes Three. Can't figure that one out sorrow I must be a little slow or something. By the way dont have a dog that is offical measured. Know mine is a little over sized. Just trying to figure out what all the stink is about on this measuring issue. I'm a supervisor for the company I work for and if they did not back me that would leave me in a lot of Deep S---. If you train them back them right, wrong or what ever. Most of the Judges I have run in under were honest. I Always ask them why when they picked my dog up and most of the time I seen the same thing out of my dog they did. Few times if they had not picked it up I was going to Scratch it.

Good post George and I can't disagree with you on your measuring points....but I have a question for you.
In brace do dogs like to get the front and do they get tired from pounding the rabbits out of earshot all day long?
Just kidd'n with on the last part George.

Re: HONEST/FAIR MEASURING
I seen one so slow his front legs were spread out so that his chest and lower jaw was on the ground. He looked like a alligator. He gave 50 barks per track and when he got to the third track they called him the winner because the dog in front of him quite barking, must have gotton something in its throat or a fly in its nose.

Re: HONEST/FAIR MEASURING
What if this dog was not permanately measured? What if this dog had to run 2 trials in 13 and 2 in 15? How does this affect his points? If he is a true borderline 13", and judges pose him one week and let him stand the next, will he not measure over when posed? Then what? All my dogs are well over 13" so this is not an issue for me, just wanted to understand this. Also, if an AKC rep permantly measures a dog at 15", then it is remeasured by AKC like the little males were at another hunt and found to be 13", will they change the class and will a stink be raised?hurryup wrote:This may sound like I m stirring s*** but we were talking at beagle club meeting. What if one of the dogs that measured out in 13 runs in 15 next week, makes it to the winners pack and measures 12 5/8? Dogs measure less after they run. OMG that would suck.

Re: HONEST/FAIR MEASURING
To the list of honest/fair measurers, let's add Mark Macconi from Bessemer, Michigan. Mark does something we have never seen before.......... When he reads the "staff" (for every hound) he lets the handler read it with him.......... Can't be more fair than that!
A couple of weeks ago, Mark measured out my dog at 13 1/8............... My dog was sired by Mark's field champion.
Congratulations to Mark and his fiancee, Nicole, for winning the 13" female class at Stittsville today!

big diffrence from 13 1/8 and 14 1/2 and besides, he said he measured out, atleast he can admit it, so quit your crying. your dog is in the class he belongs in, deal with it, let it go you will be alright big fella.

Re: HONEST/FAIR MEASURING
Bought a female last summer that had places in both 13" and 15" explain that if they are not a differance in the way people measure this was a large pack hound from the east not a midwest hound. Any time you measure by hand you are going to get different measurements from different people. How much Tolarance does the manufactor allow in making the stands. Even machined parts will be off a little and they have to have a close tolarance to work.

Re: HONEST/FAIR MEASURING
Guys, I might be missing something but last week at Jessamine my dog measured 12 7/8 this week at Mid Ky my dog made the winners pack and was measured at 13. That is only a difference of 1/8 of an inch and both times that he was measured it was done the same way. The guy put two fingers under the stick and lowered it to my dogs withers, he then took away his two fingers letting the stick lay gently on the dogs back. I am going to run in next weeks trial at Mid Ky and have a different guy measure again to see if he does it different or comes up with different numbers. As of now I can say that I have seen consistent measuring and consistent measures.
If anyone has seen the measuring done differently please post what you have seen and we may get to the bottom of the differences.

Re: HONEST/FAIR MEASURING
I wanted to say thank you to the judges at the Mid Ky derby today for doing a great jog. They measured the hounds the same way that I saw the AKC reps measure last week. One of the judges name was Glen ? and the other was Steven Bailey. Job well done guys.

Danny,
I don't think we have ever met but I know you. You always seem to be the center of controversy. I remember your dog was poisoned at the Worlds, I believe. Didn't you have an issue at your kennel, also, and now this. Now you been singled out because of yours and Joe K. very public pi$$ing contest. You have been crying woe-is-me for weeks, but you got off light. The two of you have done irreparable harm to this sport that will have lasting effects for years. Yea, many will say it's about time, including me, I run true 13", actually, more like 12 1/2", this past weekend. I don't like running against 14 1/4" in the 13s either. The fact that there was 3 others doesn't mean your innocent, just means others have been doing the same. I hope the AKC continues to follow through with what they have started and don't quit after their shock-and-awe of 2 weeks ago.
I find it interesting that neither of you have admitted any wrong doing, I think the operative word was "accused"!
Well, when clubs can't find knowledgeable judges for their trials, we'll have more time to watch NASCAR.
Mark Twain said it best "It is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!". Think about it.
