He lowered the bar with his fingers, had two fingers side by side under the bar then when he felt the top of the hound he gently placed that bar on top of them. I watched him very closely because I wanted to know how to do it. This did not alarm the hounds in any way.

you are excctly right, that is how they did it,but i thought the bar was suppose to be pushed to the withers,i dont want to argue, but, when my dog was officialed, the judges pushed the bar down to the withers, everyone knows that some dogs have very thick hair, especially heavy branko dogs, how is a thickness of a dogs hair goin to help it in the field,is it to the withers,or the top of the hair?cause they went to when the bar barely touched the hair.......

like i said, please dont start an argument here, but as a liscenced judge in two orginizations,i think myself and all the others should be on the same page........

and ackermaniach, very good post above, the proper way to pose a dog has been a topic here in akc and in arha,my dog would not stand, why didnt they ask me to help pose him,if that is the rules, then why didnt they?
Danny they put the bar on the withers and got a correct measurement! I dont want to argue with you, but, when you got your officail measurement they must have pushed the bar 2 inches into his ribcage.
One more thing if you think your dogs hair is to thick for the measurement take yellowdogs advice and shave him and have him remeasured by officail AKC reps agian. You can prove your point if you want to.

trust me ob,last thing i will do is take anything you say to heart ;)

like i said this is not just about me or my dog,but it always turns out that way,so,i am bowing out of all these discussions on measuring, but i will do it with this statement.........

i know what i have,a true rabbit dawg, and i know that if he had not went on the winning streak he did,he would still be an official 13,but o well, shyt happens,so he has to get it done with teh big boys, maybe he will, maybe he wont, but either way,i know what i got,and if he does fionish in the 15 in class, mark my word,i will still catch slack, someone will find somethin else to bitch about, but i have learned to accept the fact that noone likes to loose, and they always find an excuse for why they did,so,like i said, this is my last post so knock yourselves out tellin me how big my dog is,and how i am a lowlife cheater, and talk about how he was in the wrong class, cause just like b rabbit in 8 mile said,i already know what your goin to say, yeah,i am a fat arse, yeah,i am a tattoed piece of white biker trash,my mom and dad did divorce and i did grow up on welfare, yeah,i do have problems in my life, but runnin dogs and trialin is the one thing i found that i like and am good at,bottom line is put my hound in a briar thicket with 13's,15's,or 17's,your still goin to get the same thing outta him everytime,110%,so,bash me,bash my dog,i could care less,i'm outty, tell these people somethin they dont already know about me!!!!!!!!! :baby: :moon: :bash:

Danny, first of all I would like to say that if I offended you in some way I am sorry. I never came across this board to attack you or your dog only the class that he was running in. We have all had troubles in our life and I dont think anybody said anything about them.
There is no doubt that you know how to bring 110% out of your hounds and everybody knows that. I dont want you to stop posting about this topic, we need for everybody to speak their minds. You are not the only person that this happened to just one of the first. What the AKC reps did was a great thing for the trial circuit and for houndsmen in genreal. So this is the deal that I will make you, lets keep on talking about this topic without putting names of people or dogs on it.

Yellow dog I did not know that they shaved dogs then ran them before. I wish I had a picture of that.

Danny I wanted to come watch your hound run along time ago,I've heard nothing but good things about him from people who's judgement I trust on what a rabbit hound is. He should finsh in the 15 in class from what I hear. Good luck with him. When time allows I still would like to see him go. Hang in there and finish him.

Its a good thing that the AKC is cracking down on this problem but maybe they need to look at pulling Judges Licenses also for not measureing properly.

This may sound like I m stirring s*** but we were talking at beagle club meeting. What if one of the dogs that measured out in 13 runs in 15 next week, makes it to the winners pack and measures 12 5/8? Dogs measure less after they run. OMG that would suck.

An official measured dog that has his/her 13" card revoked won't be measured out in 15". They're now official measured 15" hounds and will be issued a new official measured 15" card by AKC.

I have measured dogs for the winners pack that had very little hair on their shoulders. I think a handler said "we are treating him for a skin problem" SURE RIGHT! Again losely place the bar on top of the shoulder blades that is all you can do. Do not push the bar down! Once you see a judge put his finger on top of the bar and give it a little down ward pressure you know he is cheating by trying to get that dog in the class and to hell with the other true 13" dogs.

Just in my opion I do not think you will see AKC Field Rep's doing a lot of this measurement. This is not something they like to do. I believe it was only done because of many written complains against a few dogs to people higher then AKC Field Rep's. If no written complains then AKC Field Reps have a much easier day. People like to have easy days!

AKC Traditional Brace trials have been run for many years without quality measurement.
Why! No written complains! They get along! The judges will put your dog in either class you ask for and the other people do not care! The judges do not measure dogs out, they know how to measure dogs in! Do they have big dogs running in the little class, SURE! Do they have little dogs running in the big class, SURE! Does AKC care, NO. No written complains, NO CARE!

Many years ago I told a older Brace Trialer that I was going to get an AKC Official Measurement on a dog I was running in SPO. He looked at me kind of stupid and said "why would you waist money to get such a thing from AKC, the judges will always measure you in, if they don't here they don't judge!"

Just last year in one of our most northern Brace Clubs the field trial secretary said "we have only one 13" male entry from a well know handler, would anyone want to help him out and move some 15" entries into the 13" class? Five 15" entries were moved into the 13" class. The 13" class was measured and all measured in. They then had a class of 6 little males. Any written complains to AKC, NO! Will AKC Field Reps show up at there next trial and measure dogs, DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH!
