When the measuring problem is fixed people will cry about something else. I am sorry and tried to stay out but this is bull .Jeremy Hubert
Jeremy,
You need to stick to talking about something that you actually know what your talking about! Its really none of your business but just to set the record straight, both Joe and Danny were warned over the last go-around. Now your warned so join the club!
I think that if AKC is going to slap around the judges that are in question then they should be paying judges for what they do. Most of these people do this on a volunteer basis. What little money is paid to them doesn't even cover expenses. They bust thier butt, some sustain injuries, for thier love of the sport. AKC keeps upping fees for everything. Pay these judges something so they have something to be held accountable for. Judging is a thankless job. Most people are pissed at you and only one person is truly happy.
It makes no difference if a judge is paid or not, they agreed to judge the dogs by the standards set. If they're not doing it by the standards then it is AKC's responsibility to enforce their rules. If the judges still don't want to follow the rules they agreed to follow then they need to be removed from judging.
Guys I did not take it today that the AKC reps were slapping around anybody. AKC is the organization that gives your dogs a title of Fc. AKC has a set of rules to follow if you want this title and we as trial members have brought this on ourselves by letting oversized dogs run in the wrong class. AKC had no choice but to step in and start policing their rules as we were not following them. AKC has taken a step in the right direction and we need to follow. As far as bumping up the size, it seems to me that the people in the show ring would not agree. If you see that your dogs are getting bigger, then you need to look at how big your studs are. There are several 13 inch hounds out there that are getting ready to get noticed.

JUDGING: DOES DOLLAR SIGNS AFFECT YOUR VISION? or how much does it cost for a judge to give legit measurement.
judging is hard no doubt and there will be some leave mad.

Right on Tandd i guess ill give my two cents. I dont believe judges should be punished by an organization that has never given them anything. These guys work harder in one day then most people work in a week covered head to toe in blood, sweat, blown out knees and so forth. As for measuring you can have ten different people measure one dog and get ten different measurements.

the akc reps should had done every class,or none. The offical measuring done by the judges shouldnt be questioned only in one class,AKC reps should do all officals measurements if the judges are going have their measurement over ruled.
Randy the reps said that they were going to go around to different trials and do the same thing. They said that they were not just going to do 13 but also 15 and not only males but females. The way that I took it was they are leading by example and want us to step up to the plate and do it ourselves. If it was done correctly in the past AKC would not have to do it now.

I find all of this a little funny as it goes back to the original post to where I as a non-AKC beagler went to the rule book and found that what was being discussed was a violation of the rules. YES, the judges were responsible for measuring the dogs and that is the first thing that they take responsibility for from what I read. I have been to a beagle trial, watched the measuring and not a dog was posed under the stand they were allowed to stand there cowarded and hunkered down which I thought was a violation at the time. I have benched many coon hounds and know that I spent hours working on stacking a dog and could spend the same amount of time making one huncker down under the measurement bar as well if I were so inclined to do so. My replies to that post addressed the word "POSE" that the drafters put into the rules which I believe is the culprit to the rules violations, although I got some flack on that but most skirted it altogether. I believe that judges were making the mistake of not mandating that owners pose their hounds while they (the judges) performed the measuring. I do not believe that the judges were purposely skirting the requirement that ALL dogs be "POSED" during measuring but that they didn't actually know what that meant or they didn't want to be the topic of vast conversation for actually mandating it done. To those that have been running oversized dogs you are at fault as you knew your dog was over the limit and you just got caught. I liken that to when someone is driving 65 MPH in a 55 MPH zone and they get pulled over. You may use every excuse in the book BUT you knew what the law required and if you truely didn't then take it to court and prove your innocence, otherwise you pay your fine or penalty and go about your business. I believe from what I have read in the issue of measurement that the blame for this goes all the way from the top down to the owners. AKC for their lack of oversight and or training on a single proper "POSE" position, the judges for not enforcing the written word of the rules by mandating that dogs be posed and the owners for allowing a dog to compete in the wrong size class. It appears that AKC is now correcting their fault and it's time for all others to do so as well.
I hope AKC keeps to their word and shows up. I believe that eventually this will help numbers in both classes. I think the 15" class will get the 13"+++++ hounds and alot more will show up to run a true 13" that wouldn't before come to trials. It would be intimidating to guys who haven't run to see thier dogs looking small compared to the rest.
To AKC reps,
Keep up the good work

Like Justin said, maybe now we'll start seeing those 13 1/2 and 14 in dogs running in the big male class that should be honest sized from now on. Maybe now we'll be able to see what and actual 13" dog looks like becuse we have definitely forgotten.
Great job to both Mel and Jim, I really hope that they keep it up. A suprise visit is always nice
Danny, don't worry about Bandit....all it takes is a rabbit dog and from what I hear about him, he'll be fine...just won't be as easy.
Once upon a time, a man asked a girl " Will you marry me?" The girl said " NO." and the guy lived happily ever after and ran his dogs as much as he wanted to.
I dont run AKC and have not spoken to Danny Vansickle more than just in passing at some ARHA trials here and there but to think that AKC reps would just show up randomly and measure only the little males at this hunt and say that they werent targeting a certain dog or person seems pretty hard for me to believe. After all the stink that has been raised whether warranted or not the facts are pretty obvious that this dog was being targeted and made an example out of.

AKC is now doing a fine job. Keep up the good work!!! We are getting our monies worth.
I will now start running more dogs now that I know that I will have a FAIR and equal chance... Maybe the large entries will soon come back to beagling. AKC has recongized the cheaters and this board has exposed it... Great Job!!.. All Associations should post this stuff at its future events.. Good for AKC, this board and congratulations to beagling as we know it!!! Something had to be done before we were running 15's in the 13's and 17's in the 15's.. Opps... It is already happening! Hope to see AKC measuring at a club near us soon!!!!
