Dog Food Prices

Post by J Hitchcock »

I have been feeding Purina Pro Plan for years but it seems they want to keep raising their prices. So the past month I have been trying to find a dog food compareable for a better price Well I tried Sportmix and it went from 1 stool to about 4 stools a day I pay $25 for 35# for Pro Plan without the circle 19.50 for sportmix for #50 and now feeding Black Gold black bag and seem to be getting along fine Im paying 21.50 but he said it was going up just wondering what everybody is feeding and how much you are paying and what kind of kennel mess you have. Thanks

Do you feed less quantity with Purina Pro Plan? I am feeding 6 dogs two almost full large coffee cans or 3 dogs per one large coffee can a day. I get quite a bit of stool with Purina dog chow. I used to feed even more but noticed some extra weight but now the dogs are looking good. I don't know how many cups are in a large plastic Foldgers coffee can but it seems like about 4/5ths a can between 3 adult dogs isn't too much feed...other than the amount of waste.
I would prefer to feed only about 2 cups a day per dog, if there is a dog food that is quality enough to keep dogs healthy and weight on. I hate a skinny looking dog. I also don't like the weighty either.
If one could get a high quality feed that would only require two cups a day to sustain health and weight, and you payed more for less weight per bag, but the feed amount was cut in half, then that seems like the way to go.
I keep my dogs in fairly large ground pens so they can exercise and play as much as they want, but am getting ready to turn my dual ground pen into a single puppy pen and put all the adult size dogs in Senneca above ground kennels. I figure when I go to the above ground kennels the feed amount should decrease slightly due to less activity being confined more often than not.

just started feeding "Rivers Bend" 27/16. only my second bag, but so far so good. first ingredient is bone and meat meal. it is $17.50 a 50# bag. seems to be doing good on it so far. was feeding diamond green bag and it was $27.00 a bag. it was good feed for the dogs, just alittle to much money for me.

I also feed the Hi-Standard 24-20. Its a comparible feed to blackgold at a way better price. I fed Blackgold until they started worrying about jacking there prices way up. One of the standards we beaglers have towards our dogfood is price. We wnnt the best product we can get at a RESONABLE PRICE! Blackgold owned most of our business for years. Now they`ve went crazy trying to price gouge us like the oil companies. Lucky there are still companies out there like Hi-Standard. You can get 26-18;23-16;24-20. They have the ratio that your looking for. There feed starts at the bottom of the barrel for around $12.00 a bag and goes all the way up to $22-$24 range depending on where your location is. Its distributed out of Pinkneyville,IL. If anyone wants to get hooked up with this feed and its not in your area, call WADE @618-201-5789. I`m not a salesman, but I am very thankful fot this company to offer a premium product at a REASONABLE price.

I`m only on my computer about once a month!
If needed I am most likely in a local Briar Patch.

I've been feeding Sportmix for about 3 years. Not seeing any more waste than with Hi-Pro, stools much firmer with SportMix. Dogs seem to be doing better on it too. I feed the black bag, 24/20 and it is costing me 21.50 per 50 lb bag. I buy it by the pallet. 20 bags.
