Ivermectin use
does it matter if you use regular Ivomec or Ivomec Plus. I have the plus, but haven't given it to any hounds yet.

Use the regular only for dogs.

I heard the plus has something in it and will kill the dogs.

Yea I got the 1% for cattle and swine, but over looked the PLUS right beside the word ivomec. guess I'll run beck to TSC and return it. that's what I get for thinking I'd run in to the store real quick grab a few things and head home. Oh well at least I caught it before I opened the bottle.

What else do you guys use with the Ivemec? Do you use a Heartwormer and/or some sort of flea controler with this? or does it take care of everything? I have never used this before and don't know too much about it.

I use Ivomec to prevent heart worms. I use Safeguard for the other worms. I give ivomec on the first of the month and worm with safeguard every two months or so. Some guys worm every month with the safeguard.

For fleas, I use Frontline plus.

What's the difference between Ivomec and Ivermax? Are you saying the Ivomec plus should be fine? I think I will still return the Plus and go with to regular stuff. I have a while to decide, won't be able to do it until at least tomorrow anyway thanks for your input though. the more opinions I can get the better off I think we will all be.

I accidentally bought Plus and have been using it for about 5 years. Nothing has died yet because of it. Regular will work just fine and I think it cost a little less.
I'VE GOT SOME DOGS THAT ARE GONNA HURT SOME FEELINGS!!!!! I just hope it's not mine. Home of Wild Hare Kennels and FC Creek Woods Blue.

The difference between Ivermectin & Ivermectin Plus is the addition of Clorsulon in the “Plus”. Clorsulon is a sulfonamide given PO as a suspension for infections with (mainly) adult liver flukes in sheep and cattle and as a SC injection for cattle, in combination with Ivermectin. People use the “Plus” when their dogs have a severe case of Mange, it will help suspend the infections and assist the immune system to heal much faster defeating sucking lice and mange mites. But remember, before the “craze” to use Ivermectin came into play, it was warned that if Ivermectin was used on a regular basis it would cause internal damage to any dog, whether you notice it on the outside or not. Ivermectin & Ivermectin Plus was only intended to be used during stubborn and extreme cases within certain dogs and not on a regular basis. That is why warning labels are on each bottle sold that reads “may cause fatalities in dogs”. Studies at Universities have absolutely proven that regular and long term usage of Ivermectin does result in kidney, liver and lung damage. The average life span of 100 dogs regularly using Ivermectin is 8 yrs old. A couple of dogs in Canada and a few dogs in the US were FC and were being “stud out” and suddenly died at an early age from kidney or liver failure. The common denominator was “Ivermectin”. This can be a “wonder drug” if used correctly. If used incorrectly you will shorten your dog’s life and you will be doing more harm than good.

If you are absolutely going to use it, I would read on this page for the correct way: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_ivermectin.html

Vets recommend meds like Heartguard for heartworm prevention used once a month. Heartguard, as an example, contains ivermectin as the primary ingredient. It's not very difficult to get a correct dosage of ivermectin from the ingredient list of any heartworm preventative. I can't see how it is safer to give a "Vet Recommended" product with the same amounts of medicine as one bought and administered that is not "Vet Recommended". Perhaps I'm just missing something here. Ivermectin from the vet will shorten a dogs life just a quickly as ivermectin from the Co-Op. What am i missing?

I have often wondered the same thing. I returned the bottle of Ivomec Plus this morning and got the regular Ivomec.

When you get the Front line get the one for the exta large dog, reason why the small one (orange box) you can get 3 dose"s for around $40 each dose is .63ml or cc. so it's around $ 16 for each dose.
get the big one( red box) i think its like 4.02ml or so each dose also $40 per box or $16 per dose. the pack for the large dog and the pack for the small dog is the same price . so you take the large one with a syringe draw out .6ml screw off the needle an apply it . put the needle back on draw out another .6mm or so remove needle ect...., you can do 4 dogs for the price of one. i read this somewhere
(prolly here) so i cheked it out its all the same, jus the dose is bigger for bigger dogs. so you go from $16 a dog down to $4 a dog an its worth every penny. and it has a 20 pound range so if you give them a little extra it wont hurt. my doges run round 20 to 25 pounds and i give them about .75ml . if i am doing 5 dogs or 1ml if i'm doing 4.
