Just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to begin teaching a pup to retrieve a rabbit.
Thanks

i have had only 1 to retrieve,I didnt do any kind of training.I think its just born in some hounds.
Re: Retrieving
We started out with a dead frozen rabbit on a string and a check cord on the dog. When he would get the rabbit in his mouth, we would back up and call him and bring him back at the same time. As soon as he would bring the rabbit back, we would praise him, treat him on release and toss it out again.

Re: Retrieving
I had one years ago and was told it was because I used to play fetch with a ball but I dont know if that was it or not.
