Get her drunk, put on some Barry White music, lay some panties on the ground and dim the lights. Doggie Viagra might help as well.

Seriously, I'm a firm believer in letting nature take it's course. She might be a day or 2 early. I would present the male to her tomorrow. She should accept him if she "flags" him with her tail,( moves her tail way out of the way and backs up to him). If she flags and he doesn't try, then another male might need to be used. I've had very little luck when I have put them in a pen together. Yet sometimes I've had them breed through a chain link fence...go figure!!!

Good luck

She has been flagging since yesterday the male is trying but no luck yet. I stuck them in a pen together and I will leave them in until next week

Is he having a problem mounting her? You might have to help lift him up.

That's happened to me too. Knew she was coming into heat. Didn't want her bred again. And yet it happened even though she was in a seperate kennel. I still have no clue just how he managed. But I'm picturing him backed up to the fence, knotted up and dancing like this...

Sorry to ask a question that is going to require a graphic answer.....
I know what knotting up is. I've seen it. But I don't understand what is going on. What causes them to stick together? Why can't he pull out? This doesn't happen with any other type of animal does it?

You might wanna leave em together for a couple more days. If you are wanting a litter a couple of matings can increase your odds.

Several things happen to the penis during mating that, if not handled properly, can be very painful and even damage the stud for life. Once the stud achieves penetration the penis substantially engorges and the glands at the base that appears like a large knot will also swell. This knot along with the contracting muscles of the vagina will lock the coupling pair. This connection is called a "tie". Once the pair is tied they must be kept together until mating is complete and the males' organs have shrunk enough to allow him to slip free comfortably. A tie can last from 10 to 45 minutes so be ready to wait. Often times butt to butt....looks painful.

I've seen it go for over an hour. It happened when I really wanted to see a NASCAR race. Tic toc, tic toc, tic toc, tic toc, tic toc, like watch'in paint dry.
