conception

Doc S i know your probably buisy or just over looked my post about conception but if you can help me i would appreciate it., if a dog is bread and she concives, she shouldn't be able to be bread by the same or another dog in the same heat cycle....but after how long, i was told 6 hours is this true or not.

Here is some info that may help.
Sperm can survive for up to 7 days in the females oviducts. The eggs must mature in the oviduct for 3 days before they can be fertilized. This leaves a window of opportunity for several days before and after ovulation for successful breeding. The peak of a females fertility occurs 3 days after ovulation. Multiple breedings are more likely than a single breeding to produce a pregnancy and may even have an influence on the size of the litter.
This is why a female may be bred by more than one sire and have a litter of pups that may have more than one sire.

Go to http://www.walmart.com and click on books. Enter the title.
I think is was about $22 including shipping. Wonderful book. Got lots of info in it. Every dog owner should have one. The best I have seen anywhere. Will get it in about two weeks I think. Maybe sooner.
