This is one of the things that drive me crazy about having the world hunt here in Boonville. It seems everone from every club around once to drive back in rabbit season and try and kill every rabbit they can.sgc wrote:The problem is, too, its the guys that come from a long ways off that think they have to shoot as many as they can to justify their trip (and maybe brag on it when they get home). I had a guy a few years ago brag to me that him & his buddies shot 50 rabbits, on a long weekend, out of the area you post about all the time. Maybe now you realize why you can't find rabbits there.

I know the feeling, I took a guy that Kurt knows to a spot on Langston state game area, swore him to secrecy, next thing I know he has a cast from our beagle club out there, guess what, no more rabbits.

Tony, I believe you were going to Maine to hunt because of overcrowding at Drummond. - I PM'd you, Stan

Spruce Ridge, if you are referring to who I think you are let it be known that the association is nothing more than just that-association, he is a virus that beagling cant ward off. Kurt Robinson

Re: They'll get you every time
i would like to know just when people that are dedicated enough to a sport to feed hounds all year just to get hunt them 3Mos. out of the year as someone said on here ,became such bad people . They generally care deeply for their dogs and like to rabbit hunt. A lot of people don't have the time ,money or competitive nature to spend all year trialing and traveling all over the country. We are country folks who grew up hunting and have generally loved dogs all our lives,I am glad for you if you enjoy trialing and hope you have a good time while you do,But don't look down your nose at us for liking to hunt and enjoy eating wild game. Some of ,and not all you trialers are getting as high headed about field trialing as the tournament fisherman have about eating a skillet of fried fish, remember that one groups rights do not extend any farther than some one else's begin and like it or not it is legal to eat RABBIT,Denny

Seems like on this post there are a lot of down state Mi. guys stepping on eachothers toes head up over the bridge to the UP lots of ceadar swamps and popular slashes with enough snowshoe in them to wear the muts out and less hunting presure.

Until the people in this sport remember what beagles were intitially bred for there will be problems. There isn't a thing wrong with just running your hounds for enjoyment, but equally as important there isn't a thing wrong with gunning rabbits. As far as I see it if its public land then anyone has the right to gun it, run it, jump shoot or whatever they want as long as they keep to their limit restrications. If you have a problem with that I suggest your find a good private spot you can control and have a say in what happens. Neither side of this issue is anymore right than the other. I tend to side with the Gunners but do understand the pleasure runner/trialer.
Re: They'll get you every time
I was not looking down my nose at anyone and i have nothing against gun hunters do a little myself. But what i do have a problem with are these guys that drop their dogs off a hundred yards down the road from me.And i have a problem with guys like ebag33 was dealing with that are to lazy to go find their own honey hole and just show up at yours.Their is a thing called ethics that has left rabbit hunters around here in southern indiana. But just 3 weeks ago i was out running and had four idiots drop off about 200 yards from me and started hunting right toward me and my pack they were jump shooting and didnt stop and started shooting rabbits off my dogs cause theyre dogs were junk. So you deal with crap like that for three months out of the year and then maybe you will see what we are talking about. And i am not rich by some standards i am dirt poor i save my money and manage it wisely and that is how i attend trails during the year. And ur right i dont own the coal mines and everyone has just as much right to be there as me and the only difference is im not dropping my hounds off right in somebodys lap like the guys we are talking about. But maybe i might start so when a screaming pack of crazy swingin, skirtin little pack hounds joins your race just sit back and enjoy it like you want me to do when i am over run by your dogs.see ya saturday morning

you missed my point mark ,I don't turn out on any body else and I ain't knockin any body for saving their money for doing what they like,I just get tired of people running down hunters, and as far as ethics goes I volunteer to teach hunter ed,here in Ky to try to get these kids started out being sportsmen and the biggest problem you have is making them believe Dad or Grandpa ain't very ethical!!Watch what you say and do around young people they see and remember more than you realize.I don't think I know you but you sound like you're a decent enough fellow and not the kind of people I was talking about,Denny

Re: They'll get you every time
I am far from being a trial only guy I see nothing wrong with guys shooting as many rabbits as they can eat or legaly take. My problem is simply with all the guys that show up from out of town to shoot everything in the area and when asked why they come here to hunt they say well I sure dont want to kill all the rabbits around my running area.
I was raised on deer meat and squirrels even government cheese a time or two when I was a kid so I know nothing about looking down my nose on anyone. I am not on here to bash anyone just voicing my frustration. I dont know where you guys are from but I gaurantee if you had been dropped in on as many times in the last two months as I have you would be a little frustrated also.

Re: They'll get you every time
Do you guys not have access to any private land spots?? Where people can't just turn out on you. That's the biggest reason I choose not to hunt public land because you'll always run into someone that just doesn't care if you were there first. Never even ask if they can run with you either which is the way I'd handle it. I don't need their permission to be on public land but I always figure if they were there first then I should have gotten up a little earlier. That's why I asked about private land. With a little time scouting around and asking permission you can come up with at least a few spots to hunt.
