Great Day with the Girls!!!
Just wanted to say I had a wonderful day of hare hunting with my 10 year old daughter. A good friend of mine came along for the trip with his 13 year old daughter as well. We left the house at 6:am sharp and made the 2 hour trip "Nawth" to try and get one of the girls to "shoot a bunny". Although they didn't shoot one, they both had their chances. I ran my finished female with a 6 month old pup and she did a tremendous job. I bet she ran the hare for close to an hour and a half, the girls got to see it 3 times with one miss, lol. It was a beautiful 30 degree morning with about 10 inches of snow on the ground. The girls did great even busting thru the cedar thickets I did not hear one of them complain. Going to try it again this coming Monday but I think the "dads" are going to carry guns too, lol. wd

Keeping the kids in the woods is key, and having a great time while your out there is even more important!!! Took my 10 year old daughter up "Nawth" again today with a couple of friends. The running was tough but my daughter stuck with me 100% of the time. (Even the other adults were commenting on how tuff she is, she was busting brush in the cedar thicket while they hung out on the snowmobile trails, lol.) We appreciated the beautiful day, the beautiful country and the time spent together. She's ready to go again tomorrow, lol. wd

My 6 year old daughter went opening day but is a bit of a fair-weather hunter. My 11 yr old son got his first shot today and missed, but hasn't stopped telling anyone who has ears about it since 8 am, including me who was there when it happened. I love it! So many memories flooded back today! Later I killed one with my .410 pistol when he had no shot and he seemed to be as proud of me as I was him earlier. I feel sorry for dads who never experience going into the woods and bringing home meat for the family with sons and/or daughters. I won't be able to contain him when he makes his first kill. We have always stressed the hunt over the kill but I remember that feeling. Magic!

"We" decided to stay home today and not run. 3 degrees when we woke up this morning and -17 with the windchill. I think "we" made a good choice, lol. wd
