A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)

One thing to note with your emails guys (and gals) they are throwing their support towards HSUS but I haven't seen anything concerning PITA(peta). You may end up getting a response that says they do not support peta but avoiding the whole antihunting question.

Dear Charles and Kay:

Thank you for helping us to understand the issue regarding Iams
involvement with
Petfest America. We were not aware of these concerns when we decided to
get
involved with this event-we were focusing on reaching pet owners.

Though our response to you is consistent with the response sent to
others who
have contacted us, I want you to know that we are taking note of each
individual's comments.

The Iams Company is sponsoring Petfest America with the HSUS to educate
and
entertain pet owners throughout the United States. These six events
will help
bring pet care and nutrition information, as well as the Iams
Superdogs, a
world-class agility group, to thousands of pet lovers throughout the
country.

In addition to Petfest, we are present at a variety of events
throughout the
year in an effort to educate and entertain concerned pet owners on the
incredible difference superior nutrition can make in their pets-helping
them
live long, healthy lives. Some of these events include the ESPN Great
Outdoor
Games, the Master National Hunt Test-plus various national specialties,
agility
events, humane society walks and various dog and cat shows. We work
with a wide
variety of pet-interested groups to try to get our message to every dog
and cat
owner so they can understand the positive role that nutrition can play
in their
pets' lives.

Again, I appreciate you contacting us and giving us an opportunity to
respond-and hope this gives you an understanding of our position on
involvement
the dog
and cat. We try to reach their owners where they are most receptive to
hearing
our message....from sporting to non-profit events.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Adams

Eukanuba supporting Anti's

I got the same response. Real nice reply but doesn't sound like they're changing their support for the Anit's. It might be a good time to bombard Proctor & Gamble with our concerns. (Proctor & Gamble owns IAMS).

Did y'all know that Eukanuba sponsors a big traditional brace trial. I don't think they would involve themselves with any kind of pursuit of game, be it slow or fast if they were anti's... I figure they would want to distance themselves from any type of field events if they were. :?: :?: :?:

It will do for me

I have been using IAMS for two years now and was very concerned when this thread first starting hitting the boards. However, their response is "good enough" for me to remain a customer of theirs. It seems like the very typical practice of marketting to your customers. Seems odd they would partner up with HSUS and support Master Hunt tests, but......I guess they are trying to appeal to a wider audience. I'm sticking with them until a better food comes out at a cheaper price, or until more evidence is revealed concerning their support/funding of anti hunting groups. I just don't see that in this current partnership.

p.s. I like Diamond, but the only store close to me (PJ Pets) actually wants more for Diamond than I pay for IAMs. That's crazy!

I got the same copy and paste e-mail. This is my response...

OK, that is a cut and paste message that you responded to everyone else with. What about the anti hunting PETA that you support? You never attempted to answer that question. You have all of the fellow beaglers that I know of around the country pretty mad at you and are boycotting your product. We don't take PETA association lightly. They, after all, are a venomous group of people that will stop at nothing, including physical harm to humans, to protect animals that are legal to hunt. What would happen if we didn't hunt? The different species would over populate and then starve. Which is a more painful death? You go ahead and continue to support them and we will continue to boycott you. We have numerous choices for high quality dog food, so it doesn't bother us to switch to another brand. Maybe when your bank account starts to dwindle, you will see the light.

Thanks,
Emery

Here is the response...
Dear Emery:

I am very sorry; however, I am afraid you have received some incorrect
information. I would be delighted to discuss your concerns with you, please call
me at 1-800-525-4267.

Sincerely,
Tina

Well, they gave away a toll free number. I suggest that we flood it with calls. I looked at the HSUS web page and there on the front page were links to anti bear hunting in Maryland and anti dog running bobcats, cougars and foxes in Wisconsin. If they support the HSUS, then they support this as well as far as I am concerned.

I don't know how much of this is Iams supporting anti-hunters. Iams is sponsoring a series of events developed by HSUS, who are anti-hunt. I agree that it does send a bad message, and it's just Iams way of marketing to as many current and future dog-owners as possible (ie, their way of making more $$$).

What REALLY bothers me is why ANYONE supports HSUS or would want to be affiliated with them. I'm not talking bad about them just because of their radical stances - they are regularly ranked among the lowest of all non-profit agencies. Iams could've done a cursory seach on the internet to find that HSUS receives hundreds of millions of $$$ and puts almost none of it to use! Why are people so gullible?!?!?!?

Anyone can go to http://www.guidestar.org/, enter HSUS, and see the most basic info on HSUS. They made $7 million of profit in 2002 and have a whopping $96.6 million is assets! Why aren't they helping out with shelter dogs or doing their own event sponsorship? They could solve a large chunk (if not all) of our pet overpopulation problem they claim to be so concerned about with that $96.6 million!

Here's an older one with more details http://www.arbreptiles.com/extremists.html
"According to the 1995 tax forms filed with the IRS, the HSUS claimed a budget of $38,102,167. The numbers are higher today, I have recently heard the HSUS budget has grown to $50 million, but I have no acceptable proof at this time to support that.
Wow, $38 million! Thats enough to bankroll a major humane shelter in every state, and fund massive spay/neuter programs nationwide. So how many animal shelters benefit from this huge sum? NONE. Not even one. The HSUS operates no humane shelters at all. All this work is done by local organizations which have no affiliation with the HSUS. The HSUS does however very effectively use the plight of animals and people's concern for them as a fund raising tool. The vast majority of people who contribute to the HSUS truly believe this is what the money is for. After all, look at all the sad faces on the puppies and kittens we see in the flyers we find in our mailboxes. This practice can be accurately described as fraud, possibly not legally, but at least morally. They are misleading the public by giving them the impression that their money is going for something it is not. "

Here's their 2001 tax form http://documents.guidestar.org/2001/530 ... 90-1-9.pdf - it has proof (page 7 and page 22) that several of their top employees made 6 FIGURE SALARIES from HSUS funds and that they had 53 employees paid at least $50,000! Note also the deferred compensation/benefit plans of the executives.

HSUS is a complete SHAM, and these idiot corporations are either too incompetent to do an internet search or too greedy to give a darn.
