Light Snow and dry dirt about the same

We don't get a lot of light Snow here, but it is dry,dry, dry. My dogs can do very well on dry dirt and today I ran them on fluffy Snow and they did good, I felt. Most of the time one dog was doing most of the running,each dog was takeing his turn. So I ask this, is a Snow dog better than a hound that has learned to move game in very dry condition?

I wouldnt say better some can some cant .i had dogs that sent track tongue 15 below and took the same dog to a paved road with the heat waves coming of it after a rabbit crossed 20 minutes ago to see if he could and he did .snow has moisture and it will hold sent for dog id say there more sent in snow then dry conditions .i run in the snow alot

Some of the best scenting and easiest running to be had is on snow. Also some of the worst scenting and toughest running is too. Almost impossible to provide an opinion without being there doing it.

I think the two are much the same. It takes nose and patients to work out weak sent lines wether on dry ground or hard snow conditions. The best hounds I had that ran in bad snow conditions also were the ones that would out do hounds on dry ground and higher temps. As Nor' Wester said all snow is different. The snow up here now is more like ice frome your freezer than snow and holds little scent at all. Nice fresh wet snow the hounds run at full speed usually.
