Lost Beagle Gratiot-Saginaw Game Area
I got this email from a good friend today. If anybody finds Rosco, please let me know and I'll put you in touch with his owner! I sure hope somebody finds him! Here is the email:
Rosco is missing. I took him out to the Gratiot-Saginaw State Game Area on November 11 for a hunt (first of the year for him) and he ran off after a deer. He got out of my hearing for a while and then I heard him again and tried to get to him. When I was about 1/4 to 1/2 mile from him he stopped barking and I thought he would come to my call but I have not heard or seen anything of him since. I have been on the game area somewhere literally every day since, have ads in newspapers, have made contact with dozens of landowners and hunters, have notified COs and animal control people, but don't know where he is. I am still hopeful that I will get him back and I have seen a couple of walker hounds that people found in the area over the last couple of weeks but it has been a difficult time.
I thought he was over the deer running thing because it was not an issue last year. Still, he was exceptionally excited to go hunting this time and although I kept him from taking off on other deer, I lost track of him in some thick willows for a little while when he took off.
We were about 8 miles from home where I lost him and he has been on so much of that game area over the years that he might be able to make it home on his own if he is still alive and not confused about where he is. I miss him.

I kept going to same place they were last seen and called for them. 7:30am sunday on the sled they appeared right were we started. I hate to be the one to point this out , but that close to deer season and a beagle running deer on state land is not a good thing. Lots of cold hearted hunters out there only concerned about how their hunt got ruined.
Good luck finding your dog.

Re: Lost Beagle Gratiot-Saginaw Game Area FOUND!
I just got this email:
Good morning,
Yesterday at about 11:00 a.m. I got a call from a person who said there was a beagle running rabbits near her place at the Gratiot-Saginaw State Game Area. Because of reports of sightings in that area during the last few weeks, that seemed to fit the description of Rosco, I immediately jumped in the truck and went to investigate. A gentleman who has been helping me out with this situation was already there when I got there. He had seen the dog and knew exactly where he had gone. I didn't have a leash, gloves, or anything else appropriate so he lent me one of his leashes and I took off into the thick brush. The minute I saw his tail I knew it was Rosco. I called to him and he stopped and looked up with a look that said, "is it really you?" Then he came running over to me and jumped up on me. I was elated! After petting him and making a fuss over the fact that it really was him, I snapped the leash on his collar and lead him out of the brush and put him in the truck. I had a food dish in there with food in it from an earlier placement of food in a location where I hoped he would come back. We were home in a few minutes and by that time he had eaten about half of the food in the dish.
Rosco is skinny and he ate as much as I thought I dared give him yesterday but I took him for a walk on a long leash late in the afternoon and he barked on the track of a rabbit that went out of a brushpile as we walked by. He would have taken the rabbit for a run if I had let him go.
I believe in miracles. We were hoping for a Christmas miracle and although it came a few days late, it happened. I had not seen him for 47 days until yesterday. There was the firearm deer season, deep snow, single digit temperatures and times of very high winds during those 47 days but he made it! He is home in a bed of fresh straw and with a full belly as I type this!!

That is (in the words of my kids) totally awesome! I am glad things turned out for him.
