Solo Hunt

Post by snide »

Here in SE Indiana we do not have an over abundance of rabbits, but it seems when deer season ends a few die hard deer hunting buddies of mine want to supply the runnin for some bunny gunning. Have you ever had one of those days where you thought because of the weather Rabbits would be sitting tight as can be and not stirring worth a darn. Such was a day last Sunday, with Temps in the single digits and winds 30 MPH I had the bright idea to hit the field for what I thought would be a Terrible Hunt with a buddy that was nagging me to go. I figured we would just take one dog, and bail out after 20 minutes do to lack of running, so we loaded up my most experienced Beagle "Rambo" and off we went. I was very suprized when Rambo jumped a rabbit 5 minutes into the hunt and ran him near out of hearing distance and brought him back....With the 'ol Charles Daly 20 Auto on the ready I bagged my first bunny..After that, it seemed we could not walk 10 feet without jumping a bunny or the dog off on another race. What we thought would be a disaster turned out to be a real nice hunt, in just shy of 1 1/2 hrs we managed to bag 8 Bunnies just 2 shy of a two man Indiana Limit....We coulda stuck around for two more but we just could not take the cold any more, and my buddy had told me four rabbits earlier that he had enough!!! LOL

Just thought I'd share, Thanks for looking and Merry Christmas!!
