I'm a new beagler and am unsure if I should introduce my 6 month old to rabbits now or maybe wait till the snow melts off in March. We have about 5 inches on the ground and 6 more coming tomorrow.
Any suggestions or experience?
Thanks !

Now ,as long as the pups not bored you ll be that much ahead, might be a little harder to start though.

Starting a pup with snow on the ground is a great opportunity as you can see what the rabbit population is in any given area. Just put him in thick with rabbits enough and he should figure it out.
It's not that life is short......it's just that we're dead for such a long, long time...

I would think that if you started them on snow they would have no problem running on sod later. I have seem plenty dogs that could run the fur off them on sod but couldn't run them on snow.

It's easier because you can quickly locate the rabbits. Just look for lots of sign and start kicking brushpiles so you can jump a few for him. Even better if you trap one and release it in front of him.

Ky.Hunter, we're suppose to have somewhere around 26 inches of snow by Sunday night. The pup I bought from you should be here this friday, guess we're going to see what he's made of in a hurry!!!
