A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
I think it's important to solo a young hound to fully develop it's potential, but also run it with the pack so it becomes a team player. I don't want any "me too" pack-only hounds, they should all be able to jump/run their own rabbit and work well within the pack....
Soloing is just a tool to find out if the dog has the ability to jump and run a rabbit efficiently. A dog will develop just fine if it has a brain, enough nose, and desire to run a rabbit. I doubt if Gay Baker was ever ran solo in his life and he did just fine.
