ray s wrote:what's the story behind ace in the hole.i think i saw some stud ads on him in the old magazines, and have heard a few people mention he was in their peps.what was he like?who had him?i really don't know anything about this hound.
the best way to tell his story, is that he was a bad ass! it didn't matter where he was put down he was the dog to beat that day. he finished for his ifc before the age of 2 yrs. al winkler handeled him in canada said he was the best hound he ever seen run. some old guy over in germantown ohio owned him. i think his name is don.

Call Ivan Mast 330-231-8194.. RJ is an Awesome hound, LP Hall of Fame, Never pulled a minus, 100% jump dog, good speed, checking machine, never ran anything but a rabbit naturally...

Is RJ still alive and being bred? I saw some stud ads years ago on him but haven't heard about him sense. Does this Ivan own him and is there a full pedigree on him? Thanks

Hi Don,
Sorry it took so long to reply, but I was away in Somerset Pa.deer hunting with family. As far as Ace goes,I never seen him run but I have talked to several trialers and Don Hoog who owned ace, made him an AKC FC and sent him to Canada for Al Winkler to handle him to become an IFC,which he did in four trials. He was entered in four and won all four. I guess he was a real powerhouse,I was told by several that he would just explode out of a check and open an immediate gap on the rest of the pack.I like the Ace blood so well that I went to Ark.in 2006 to buy an old Ace bred female from Trent Wood who was known as Swing on this forum. The last time I talked to Don Hoog he told me and I quote him "anybody who wants Ace blood directly out of Ace better get down to Delaware and breed to that Prince hound".I dont see what the issue is with most, sure Prince is not been trialed but if any of you have trialed as much as I have in the last year(AKC)then you also know that some of the so called FC's deserve to be then some dont.I have run all over PA.,Oh.,Ky.,and even W.Va.,a couple times and I havent seen too many hounds I like a lot better than Prince. After all Prince has the looks,he looks a lot like Indian Hills Majer and he throws that into his pups.A good friend of mine just bred a hevily line bred Jiggs female to Prince a second time because the first litter turned out so perfect he figured he better do it again before Prince is no longer viable,as he is ten know.So anyway Don, George may be selling some of the Prince X Kyp male pups he will probably keep the females,George can be reached @330-618-2208 or 330-896-4838,Kyp is the Jiggs female he rebred to Prince.Other than that I dont know of any young Prince hounds for sale, but if you ever want to see any of Princes offspring run I can certainly entertain that, fron several different dams.My phone# is 330-338-3069 and Alfreds is 740-816-3290.Give me a call sometime we'll talk dogs---------------Vic
