That question could open pandora's box, but when you find em, let me know. I think you could find the dog you are looking for in any line. You might look at a few dozen before you find it though.

Everyone knows its Swamper Dogs, hands down.

Snow, I'm sending you a litter soon, your hunting will never be the same again. LOL!

Seriously though, this a good question. I'd be willing to bet that the answer will be a grade hound that is probably crossed with some hound sometime in the last 5 generations. Majority of beagles, probably 99.9% do not have the nose to run consistent in all conditions. Hounds seem to posses the nose so a cross of that may do it.

Good luck finding it for sure. We are all looking for that perfect nose.

Any luck Yet? It was -15 this morning with a wind chill around -20. One week old snow, that the cold has sucked out every ounce of moisture, its like tiny crystals. My best dog made some noise, but couldn't hold for a complete circle. Three hours and called it quits. Anybody else in the north try and run today?

Aaron, not much better here. Yesterday was the same as today- about 15 below with a stiff north wind. I waited til about 9:30, then took Stella and her mother Hannah out for a run. Took over an hour to get a start but they ran fairly well considering. In fact it was better running than the cold weather and bare ground early in the month. I didn't bother with a gun, just wanted to see how they'd do. Twice I thought my eyeballs had frozen in my head. They had to just pick at the track about half the time but looked pretty good when they were able to get up close on him. Seemed like every time they headed towards me they'd have a hard check. Hannah's well over 12 so I picked them up after running about an hour. I'd had enough. If this cussed wind would ever stop, I think we could shoot a few. We need fresh snow and a calm day would be greatly appreciated.
