Earl,

I have two adult broke beagles. One was naturally broke and one had to broke with electricity. The dog that is naturally broke had several littermates that were not naturally broke and took some time to break. My adult that had to be broke never had a deer problem but rather a fox problem. It is a real nice feeling when I know I can take these two out with the young dogs I am training and know pretty fast if the pups started trash.

we have one that at 8 months old would not run a deer. Had some other pups run a deer by me and the pup, he went over, sniffed, and came back. He has yet to run a deer. He is off Reffett's Ky Mtn Rock and Reffett's Ky Mtn Ice Sky. Hope he doesn't break over, but he has had alot of chances and never has. Turned down a fox also.

What exactly do you mean by Naturally broke. We never used any collars etc to break a hound, we just started them young on lots of hare and maybe 30% tracked deer once, got a slap and yelled at, maybe do it once more and only not too far as they were young and don't like going too far too long. After that we never have a problem.
As far as bred not to chase off game, I don't buy it. They will chase what you let them/show them. You need to be the master of the hound for it to bother to listen to you in the first place, then you will have few problems.

I have a young Reggie female that has never ran anything but a rabbit and has had deer jump up right in her face and if another dog runs one she will come back to me and she has been like this since she started running and I have never had to shock her off trash.

Ive got two older females that are natually deer proof and have always been. There sire was also so im guessing thats where they got it. I never owned a shock collar till this year and it was gave to me. Ive been using it on a young female ive got just for handling reasons and not using it much at that.

I've seen several individual dogs that never ran one. Seen several that ran them after 5 years old even though they turned them down until then.

Never seen a "line" that was however and never will either.

I have one that has had about 1,000 rabbits killed to him in the six years of his life and has always turned deer down and has even came in on pups that started a deer chase. Well that was until one Saturday morning on November the 8th. at 8:42 am. OUT of the blue, he started a chase on six doe and ran them for about 5 min until i yelled at him. So later that day, I put the E-collar on him and walked him over six more deer and he never even acted like they were there. I put him on both rutting bucks and doe that were in heat and nothing. So how the H _ _ _ do you deer break a dog that wont take them when you walk them over them? I have since then had him over 25 or more deer and no reaction to them what so ever. Any ol'e wise men out there that can teach me something????????? It makes me sick to my stomach when I look at him any more. I still to this day would like to kick him in the head for it, but that wouldn't do any good. Lost all my trust in the little S.O.B. Even after he has turned them down six straight years before this and has continues to do so since his little brain freeze. I'm at a loss as what to do about it. Sorry just had to vent a little before I go and hunt him five straight days in a row with a four day brake and back at it for eight more straight days of Mississippi running : - )

All my hounds are naturally 100 % deer broke. Any hound that is not born deer broke is out the door asap. I'm not afraid to drop my whole kennel into a deer heaven without electronics. If you know the saying "full of it" then you know what im talking about.

I'm with you Swamper, a dog will make a liar out of you as quick as your kids will. (LOL) I dont have any problems with them either, but I'll never say never.
